I have my console apart, the speedo and tach are on their way to be relamped.

So with my spare time I decided to do a little paint work on it using plasticoat spray.

Here's the result...

mrmike, Will you do me a huge favor? Squirt a little bit of that on a piece of styrofoam and see how bad it melts it. I'm in the middle of a project and need to coat some blue foam boards.

I did my console to see if I would like it black. Now after a year it doesnt look as good and I will PC them next winter. Props on the detail work. Fun stuff to play with. It doesnt like gasoline though.

Been thinking about doing the crusty aluminum factory rims on my truck.

Soft02, Yeah I know it's not forever which is mainly why I used it I figured I could try it and if I didn't like it then just pull it off and no harm no foul, if I do then it'll be a more permanent paint job in the future though in all honesty nothing is really going to adhere to chrome so maybe just a yearly redo with the plasticoat.

76shuvlinoff, Hit the website DipYourCar.com it's what gave me the idea though I was there because I was considering doing my truck with the stuff, if it was permanent I would still do it.

Chopper, No sweat I checked out the peanut family this morning and they appear  unscathed if you want me to hit them a few more times I'll do it, I have koolaid for blood a natural born killa, LOL!

Mike,
How or what did you use to tape off the center? (Blue).
Neat job.

Yup blue painters tape, just covered it all up and sat down with an exacto knife to cut out the parts I wanted painted, pretty easy took a little time.

Jumbo I barely put a dent in one can, just light coats 30 or 40 minutes between coats spraying from different directions on each coat to get all the nooks and crannies, maybe 5 coats total. Make sure you pull the tape after the last coat before it dries.

I'm a big Plastidip fan; it's easy to use once you get the hang of it, and the fact that the process if reversible is enticing. I've done one set of car wheels, and I'm thinking about doing my bike's wheels.

Thanks for the info. Yours looks real good!

Used it last year on my front forks, cow bells, crash bars, horn, primary cover, trans side cover, starter end cap, cam cover, air cleaner and top rocker boxes.  I wasn't after the flat black look this time around so I top coated with clear for a semi gloss finish.  It is true that gas is not compatible with this finish, as I found out when the tank O ring leaked when I plugged it together again.  The benefit to using this is the peel and stick nature of the product and removing is relatively easy.  After a season of riding the cam cover and primary cover show where boots have rubbed a bit of the finish off so it is not as durable as powder coat, but I wasn't planning this finish forever.

I'd heard that stuff wouldn't hold up to heat on engine parts. Guess I heard wrong. Thanks for those pics.
