ok,I know all about different variables when it coms to dyno testing parts.but it seems with all the people wanting to know which 2 into 1 is best why doesn't someone take one bike ,test about 6 of the best selling ones and see what happens.use a average setup of air cleaner, tuner, cam for 1500 to 5000 rpm range and stock heads.i know ,this may not be a motor for everyone but I bet it's more common than most people think.oh,well, good idea but it would be nice.

Latrobedyna

You have the money to buy 6 different pipes and the time to dedicate  to installing and removing each pipe while using up time on a dyno ? with no real profits for your self? If so you should do it.
2006 FXDB , 95" 57H +4% cam, 10:25 pistons: Ported head's. Lots a fun

Couple of us guys threw in for this a few years back on another forum, three pipes, do a search, you'll find it.....  Seems that rb exhaust was exposed in that test when everyone was screaming how great they were .  :smiled:

Just wait till you get some input about this from the tuners on this forum. They see and keep track of what each pipe does in certain builds.

Hot Rod Harleys magazine used to do stuff like that all the time. I forget the name of the editor, but he loved chasing horsepower. Alas, mother ship said no to using their name, became Hot Rod Bikes, then Hot Bike said no, too confusing, so it bacame Baggers.
But I digress. It was great to see side by side by side comparisons and riding opinions. Seems no mags do anything like that anymore. In fact it seems none of the mags do their own work anymore, always heading down to the local Harley shop to shoot pics of a mechanic doing the work, drag the results out for 2 or 3 issues.

ask if it's because of their haircut

Great comparison, however different pipes will act differently to compression, valve sizes, port design, and cam profiles.... To much to document, better off guessing, or waiting. Let's also not forget the differences in tunes and how finicky a dyno or engine, can get with weather changes.
I'm not here cause of a path before me, Im here cause of the burnout left behind

What about the different 2:1 head pipe designs?  Like the D&D having stepped headers; is that what makes the pipe work so well?  Or is it all in muffler/back half design?

The editors name was Frank Kaisler..  Only HD rag worth reading when he was at the helm..

yes, those pipes were suppose to be the next greatest thing since sliced bread because they were custom made and cost 400 bucks more than anyone elses pipe, iirc they were out performed (marginally ) by a old style theader and a bunch by the fat cat , its been years, so I could be wrong ,

that's not what I'm saying, I'm not trying to go to bat for any manufacturer, I'm just saying you had all these guys saying their exhaust was superior because they had spent extra money and a waiting period to have their exhaust hand made and it was out performed by a off the shelf pipe, that's all,

I'm on my third set of pipes and the difference between them wasn't earth shattering.. The Supermeg was a little better in the lower R's but I like to rev.. I like my $500. Propipe..

paulie61

i have had an RB C style, Pro pipe and now I run a Supermeg with 10 discs and open end cap.

By far the Supermeg was the best performer with the Pro Pipe second,RB wasnt any better than any 2-2 style exhaust I owned. Of course that was before any kind of engine work was done. I still run the Supermeg and I am selling the Pro Pipe..RB was sold a long time ago  :fish:

i liked the older style propipe, now use a boarzilla but its a dyna boarzilla pipe on a fatboy fits a tone better around the engine and oil tank, but i dont think they are equal length head pipes on the dyna ones,

The step design creates a series of negative pulses to help scavange the cylinder.

I'll donate my dyno if someone wants to come and do the tests.
(I have a spare D&D FatCat you can use too)

Very nice.  RC cycles had a bike that looked like yours with a burns pipe on it on the dyno when I showed up for my runs on saturday.  That burns pipe is a nice looking piece.

When I picked up my motor from Bvbob last spring he had just done back to back testing with two different 2 into 1 pipes on the same motor. Hopefully he will chime in but there was a big difference in the tq curve between the two on the dyno sheets.

That is artwork there but if we switched pipes we would both lose power..
