Buddy Just Picked up another Scoot, this one, a 2001 E/G Standard. One of the Driving/Passing lamps is Toast, and he wants to Replace the pair. (one has been replaced with what Looks like a TSC Type of Lamp. He Now has a Mismatched pair......) I Thought I Remembered reading, (Some Time Back mind You) there was some kind of info on installing a set of these that you could Just replace the Bulb, (After the Initial Purchase of the Lamps.....) NOT the Whole lamp itself, (Perhaps they were Halogen or??) and Not Have to buy the Expensive H-D set-up. Does Anyone Know about these, or even Better Yet, Have Real World Experience with them, Not just what the Manufacturer Pumps out? Ideas?? Maybe What would be the Best Driving Light/Lamp he could buy, as in, he Has Trouble seeing at Night, which is One of the Reasons he Bought This Scoot, (Extra Lights etc.) and is thinking about Parking, or Selling his Sporty.
About all I was able to find with the Search engine thing, was stuff about Different Lamp assemblies, nothing on what I Thought I'd read. Mind You, I Don't have a Lot of Luck with the Search thing. Likely just Me, not putting the Proper Words in or Something?  :banghead:
Thanks MUCH in advance.

several options on pass lamp replacement
the complete bulb assy, not the housing, is available from auto parts store in Wagner brand, like $8 to $12 bucks each
Another option is the Kuryakyn or Truck lite LED's, those are probably the brightest, but on the spendy side. I think members here have been buying direct from Truck-Lite around $160 a pair
Need a bigger garage

Check this thread.  Keep something in mind however... Your buddy needs to decide if he wants to stick with stock wattage or not. Also, there are a number of clear or amber lights that will work, but it is important to determine in advance if he wants fog or driving lights.  The flutes will be different.

There are a couple of good options, 4416 A is a 30 watt Amber, 4416 is a 30 clear.  http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/wagner-incandescent-sealed-beam-4416-bulb

Thanks for the Replies People!
Those Truck Lites I'd Heard of, Somewhere, Here?? Not Sure. Kind of a Pricey Bugger eh! A Thought, That's for Sure. Don't Know if he'd want to go That Far or not. He Only Rides at Night on Occasion, (Recreational Only) so Not Mandatory, or his ONLY Option to Get somewhere........

Interesting Read Rags, Not one I had found. The Link to the Lights Look Like what he was Trying to Explain to me, yet when I asked him if they were "Fluted" or Not, I Got the old Deer in the Headlights Look from him. (No Pun intended....)
He Wants "Driving" Lights. For the Amount of Actual Fog we get here, it is MAYBE a Once or Twice a Year thing, and it's Very Unlikely he/we would be out Riding in it, so, No, Not Fog, just Driving Lights. As far as Wattage goes, from anything I've read so far, I don't think he'll have a problem Stepping up a Little......
Still Can't figure out where I read about the Lamps you could Just replace the Light Bulb itself though.  Maybe I'll check J&P online later on when I get back in and see IF that's What I'm Thinking about.
I Hope You understand what I'm saying. I Know You can replace the Lamp assembly on All of them, but on SOME, you can replace JUST the Bulb. Sort of like Your Auto, (a Little Modern Auto that is, Not a 60's Chevelle or something like that......) Maybe like the H-3 or something?
I dunno, maybe I Didn't even Read it here, or I Just THOUGHT I read something like that......  :emoGroan:  Bordering on a Migraine today, and That DON'T help the Thinking process.........  :emsad:

THANKS Again eh, I DO Appreciate the Help. Looks Like I Might end up going out to our Local TSC for those Bulbs in the Link after all.
Appreciate This.

I believe the newer bikes have passing lamps with replaceable bulbs but they would probably be too pricey. The sealed beams last for years, just buy a second one to match the first.
He/everyone should be thinking AMBER, highly visible during the day and put out good light after dark. I once rode home after dark on country roads using just the amber passing lamps and had good lighting and no one flashed me because I wasn't blinding them.
You can buy amber cover from Cee Bailey for clear lensed sealed beams but I think they don't fit the newer bikes, or do like Rags said or NAPA Auto Parts. Last sealed ambers I bought from NAPA were around $17.00 each.

If his scoot is a 2001 like you said, and has STOCK passing lamps, the Wagner replacements are what he needs.  2001 was a sealed beam.  One thing to keep in mind, I'm pretty sure the 2001 used spade connectors, not ring connectors.  You may want to check and see what he has and try to pick up lights with the same connector.  I know some of the Wagners have a screw ( for ring connector) , others have both a screw and spade so you don't need to cut off the end and crimp on a connector that works.

The 4416A's have screw terminals. I made short spade to screw adapters.

Sorry about the Delay in getting Back to Y'all, but by the Time I Got Back in last night, it was Midnight, and to be Honest, I Was too Pooped to Pop, so I Said the Heck with it, and went to Bed for the Night.
ANYWAYS, THANKS for The Replies, AND the Info in them.
I Think, (For NOW anyways) We'll just go with a Decent QUALITY Replacement for BOTH of the Driving Lamps. Perhaps come the Winter, when he has to have a New Drive Belt and Shifter Shaft seal, (and Any Others.....) Replaced, do a Little Something with his Driving Lights at That Time. I will be Doing, (Most Likely) the Cams, gears etc. Upgrades, and POSSIBLY a B/B at That Time as well. IF our Winter is ANYTHING like the Winter we had here this Past Winter, There'll be PLENTY of Time for all That, and MORE! LOL (we Live about 60 Miles North of Detroit, in Sarnia, Ontario..... Brrrrrr LOL) While I was Putting a Set of Rear Pads on yesterday, I Found out he Needs a Belt. This one SHOULD get him by until Winter.
BACK to the Driving Lights issue. On one of the Links I Looked at, it Gives Approximate Hours of Life etc., and I Did Notice, SOME of these are saying 300 Hours, (Mostly the Non Fluted ones) while Others, and Most of the Others are (I I R C.....) over 4000 Hours! Quite a Difference! He Mentioned he Does Like the "LOOK" of the 4416, which I Replied, You're NOT Buying them for "LOOKS"! You NEED them for the Light output! They were also one of the 300 Hour Life Bulbs.....  :idunno: Go Figure.......
Anyways, as I say, For NOW, I Think we'll just install a set of Those, and MAYBE, (If $$$$ and Stuff Gets Better....) We'll do a Little Something (Maybe More High End) come Winter.
Last Question. Even Though I Don't see Why they Wouldn't, but, Would the Newer H-D Passing/Driving (Talking JUST the Lamp assembly itself, Not the Total Package with the Lamp Holders etc.....) Lights Work with an Older, '01, bagger, or is the Draw Too Much, or Size of Them Change, or do you Know? Just Thinking out Loud, IF we can find a Set of Takes offs, here or Flea Bay or Something, IF the Price is Right that is..... Maybe Go That Route?
OK, Taken me almost an Hour to Type This Much, I'm Done, S. S. & S. Time anyways!
AGAIN, THANKS for the Info & Help People, Truly Do Appreciate the Time & Effort for You to do so.

How did you determine that? Is the current belt fraying or something? I broke two belts but never saw any signs they needed replacing.

Is that my old bike?  I ran butt ugly H7616 bulbs in mine.  They are a bit unsightly, but the non-fluted lens lets you see for a long ways.  They have an advertised 300 hour life, but I didn't find that to be an issue.

If he's looking for bright and doesn't want to spend for LED's, the brightest he'll find are the Wagner H7616 they are an aircraft hallogen lamp, I used them for several years but they just didn't last very long.

Some years ago I took Trucks advice and tried the amber lamps no they're not as bright but I'm certain that they stand out and get me noticed especially during daytime rides and well worth the loss of brightness, seeing is believing and I've seen it.

Over the winter I changed some of my headlamp and passing lamp wiring and now I can run my highbeams with the passing lamps so if I need the extra light I've got that option.

Google H7616 images if you want to see what they look like they are a little different.

Yepper....... I Was Looking at the Rear Pads, (It was Going for a Safety on Fri.) and Just the way it was sitting, Sun Coming towards the Left, and I See this Kinda Funny Looking thing showing through the Wheel Spokes, that caught my Eye. It Turns out, it was a Piece of the Belt, approx. 5/16-3/8 of an inch, Approx.. 2 1/2 - 3 inches Long, Right from the Inner edge of the Belt, towards the Center. Upon Further Investigation, I Found Two Rather Large "Divots" in the Under side of the Belt. It LOOKS like it COULD have been a Bolt that wrapped around the Pulley or something, and when the Belt Rotated, it Popped UP through the Belt. The "Divots" are Approx. 2 1/2 inches apart from each other...... If it was ONLY those Two things, I Likely Wouldn't have even said Much, IF anything, to him about it. Have a Good Friend whose R/K I've been Servicing & Repairing for Over Ten Years, that I Brought to His Attention, a Hole the Size of a Dime! He Told me then, It's Been in there Since He Bought the Bike Over 5 years before that! Well, He's Since Sold the Bike, and Told the New Owner about me doing all his work. Well, the dude came & seen me to "Talk" about the Belt. HE, basically Freaked out on ME, for Not Changing the Guys Belt! (It's a Perfectly Centered Hole in the Belt.....) When I Explained to him, it DOES Cost Money to Replace Them, he Said I SHOULD have done it Anyways, That was When I Showed him the Door. (Perfect one for the "Customers that suck" Thread in Earls.....) These ARE Tough Belts!
Anyways, We Rotated it Through Two Revolutions, Just to be Sure, But the Way that it's Frayed on the Inside, IS Cause for Concern. I Did "Trim" the Excess of, kinda HOPING it Might Help by NOT Catching on anything.....  :idunno:

He's Not REALLY Concerned with the Being Seen Quite as much as he is with, SEEING. We Live in a Fairly Small town, (75,000) and He Normally Works all week, and on Weekends, he Likes to hit the Back Roads Just to Relax & Ride away the Week, IF Ya Know what I Mean.
Meeting up with him Right Shortly to discuss this, and Probably Pick up a PAIR of Something. I'll be Giving him ALL these Options AND Some Opinion on them Shortly.

Just Want to say AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL, for Posting and Trying to Help a True Brother Out. Going to TRY & Convince HIM, to Join us Here at HTT While we Have Breakfast!
