Is it possible that an ''A'' lifter can loose ability to feed push rod with pressurized oil and lifter still gets oil?

after studying the lifter operation diagrams on line I would say the check ball or restrictor passages would have to be plugged with debris or too low of oil pressure to keep oil from continuing up the push rod.

Check ball/valve is used for the lash take up only.  Oil can get in and can't get out.

The pushrod gets metered oil supply from the pushrod seat/cup via the same feed that is supplying the check valve.  The seat typically has a channel in the bottom, or a hole in the side.

oops, meant to answer the question...  If you aren't getting any, or very little oil through the pushrod it's likely a pump or relief valve problem.  The tappets for the most part can stay pumped up with very little oil pressure thanks to the check ball.

I might add any oil going to the top via the pushrod is surpluss oil from a lifter all ready pumped up. Flow continues out and up the rods once the cavity below the lifter piston is filled. It would take really low pressure, bad leakdown within the lifter, a blocked pushrod or something seriously wrong with the piddle to stop oil from moving along it's path to the rockers.

The front rocker box looks kind of dry, as little or no oil has reached it. It fits with the ''knocktick'' from front rockers as well. Lifters were full of oil, pushrods was seethrough and looked kind of dry inside (and outside).

THANKS if someone can show LINK here....

Bubbie, do you remember what the thread title is?

I would be surprised if something is missing in lifters, since this just occurred with untouched stock lifters with about 85k miles on them.

I would doubt it too.

The piddle valve is the flat disc with holes which sits under the pushrod seat, it's a metering device.  If by chance you had serious build up of crud in there it could cause oil delivery issues.  If the piddle valve is missing you'd get too much oil to the top end.

Easy enough to pull a lifter apart, that's what I'd do.
