This is kind of a trike and it leans.

Many, many years ago, while I was killing time at the (now defunct) California Sidecar plant in Huntington beach (they were mounting a Friendship II on my '90 FL), they let me go for a ride on a BMW K1000RT set up with a leaning rig called a "Flexit." Like this one:

It was a really clean setup, using a box beam that had a sprocket/chain setup inside to keep the car and bike parallel when leaning around corners.Wasn't bad, wasn't hard to ride, and still did ride like a "real motorcycle," but the additional weight sorta made the nimble BMW feel like a fully loaded Kawasaki Voyager (the six cylinder one). I actually preferred my rigid-mount sidecar, which was its own unique kind of vehicle rather than feeling like an underachieving motorcycle.

I have no idea if the "Flexit" is still being made, though.

I saw those Flexit sidecars a few years ago and I still drool to have one, just don't have a bike to put one on... I think they be a bunch of fun on a CB750 Nighthawk!

For the price that thing is going to sell for, you might just as well buy a small convertible car. :emoGroan:

30+ years ago Popular Mechanics showed a three wheeler built from a motorcycle. They had full plans and instuctions. The plans showed you how to mock up a body with plywood panels and foam, then fiberglass over all of it. I bought a set of the plans but never did anything with it.

Oops! of course I found it right after I posted it! Mechanics Illustrated magazine, Tri-Magnum.

I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Eastricer, I usually agree with what you post but in the case of the steering stabilizer, I'm bettin it's there for liability reasons possibly.

Too much horsepower is almost enough.

I may be way off base, but I thought the Roach was Can Am's approach a different breed of people. People that heard too many scare stories about two wheelers; whether they be hells angels stories or stories about people fallin off bikes. I know not everybody that rides these new bikes are first time riders but I'll bet a lot of em are.

I remember that article and wondering if my 80 850 Special would work.

I can't imagine why it would not work. Of course more HP is always better.

Tri glide is a rushed to market hack job for the wanna be's that can't even screw up the courage to get on 2 wheels..... It is nice that the old and injured have better options now, however start looking at who is buying them... First bike and it's a tri glide?????? Buying a lifestyle.

Brice I think you could possibly offend some senior gents here with that reply.  But then again I think most of them are mature enough not to take or think you meant it personal...just spout'n off eh.   Rick

Nice try at pigeon holing folks, there are folks who are not old, injured and also ride both 2 wheels and 3. The Triglide may not be the best, but it is a way for a person to get a factory built and warranted trike for a reasonable price.
