Hey Jam, I remodeled my kitchen and bought the counter tops from Lowes. I used the blue tape most commonly used for painting and covered the entire area that the saw would touch.  I used a skill saw with the fine tooth blade. Then used a jig saw with a fine tooth blade. They all turned out great. Cut from the top not the bottom. Do a sample and see for yourself. I'll see if I have the pictures and send them to you. Good luck.

I believe you're talking about a post formed counter with an attached splash and a rounded edge. Your best bet is to cut from the backside or with a jigsaw and you can get a blade with the teeth pointing down and that shouldn't chip . put some blue tape along the cut to keep the base of the jigsaw from marring the laminate. You can also cut from the good side with a circular saw and a 40 tooth carbide set just deep enough to score the surface of the laminate and then cut again just off of the score cut and then clean it up with a belt sander. I'm a retired carpenter i've made buccu cuts like this. 35 years worth. Also keep in mind that the edges of the cut laminate will be very sharp and can cut you so take a file and take the sharp edge off before you handle the countertop.  Like I said your best bet is to cut from the backside with a circular saw and clean it up with a beltsander..
