You guys are making too much out of this. If the lifters are new the assembly oil will bleed right out of them. Tighten them down. Wait a minute. Back off the adjustment until the pushrod spins. Lock it down. You can do all 4 in less than 10 minutes.

Sounds just like the old slabside shovelhead adjustment with the sifton solids.

:hyst: Easy cowboy,  I remember certain day's as a Instructor dreading the Valve's and Injector's adjustment hand's on a live engine.  first time I let them do it on the non running  tear down engine and the confidence level was great and they do a good job, the second day I give them a live engine, and holy crap like they never seen a engine before..... I would be so worn out after working with 30 guys working on 10 live engines, Mercedes, Cummins, Caterpillar and Detroit.  It took 5 days at 6 hours of lab time.  :crook:   Lots of redo before I could fire these engines up.

So unless you do this for a living and everyday,  take your time and be patience and do it right

Remember as the engine warms up the lifter preload will decrease. The cylinders will grow more than the push rods will in height/length. So as long as you bottom the lifter and back it off until the push rod spins you will be fine.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!
