I haven't had to do anything with lifters in a long time (as lifters go anyway). Now that I'm looking for a set I notice that Fueling is making lifters for EVO motors now. They used to be considered the hot setup for the TC guys. How do they stack up with EVO's. Worth the money or no. Also what about Crane. I seem to recall that they were taken over by S&S when they had some money problems. Same question.

Couple things, YES, S&S is owner of Crane last few years or more, S&S does mfg its own lifters, nearly ALL others are mfg by Hy-Lift
If you have a Biker's Choice dealer in your area, the Twin Power branded are mfg to our own specs and over the last few years we have offered them, they have been a great seller and are also offered in oversizes, hi-lift app's, slow bleed apps
I sell a ton of them and have them in my personal bike with more miles than i can count on them with no issues. A lot that goes in to Lifter choice is what your engine recipe is

So, i take it you are recommending the Twin Power branded lifters. I am currently running an Ultima 120ci motor although I would guess that the only part of that effecting the lifters would be the high(ish) lift cam and the valve springs. Thanks for the response by the way. I was begining to think there was nobody left on the board familiar with aftermarket parts. Just a few years ago my question would have resulted in a dozen different members chiming in with their experience and knowlege.

I didn't say anything previously because you specifically asked about Crane and Fueling lifters... I've never used either one.  I had very good luck with Jims original big axles in my evo and shovelhead, I stopped using them when they went to the Hyrdo-solids and actually used HD big axles a few times with excellent results also.

Today if I was putting a new set in my stroker I'd use S&S...  As I recall back in those days Crane and others still used the old style small axle/race wheels and I found those to be a pita...

Gryphon, still a lot of knowledge on the board, some has just been redirected  guess, Hey, I still check in daily
There a lot more knowledgeable/experienced wrenches on here than me, a lot more! I just chime in when I see a question that I can confidently answer. Anyways, back to your engine, May want to actually check into what, if any, difference the Ultima may have that don't allow use of more common parts, just a thought. I'm sure someone on here will add to this
Good Luck, Rob

Are you happy with the Ultima120 motor? Are you having a problem with the ultima lifters?

gryphon

Actually the 120 has behaved pretty well. I swapped out the stock cam for a V-Thunder 5010 which bumped my CCP from 159lbs to 185lbs. Surprisingly it seems to start quite a bit easier with the new cam. I had heard that there were some issues with the Ultima lifters so I figured I'd just swap 'em out.

They've gotten some bad publicity in the past but I have 30,000 miles on the Jims hydos in my S&S 93" shovel. I have ran cams with lifts up to 561 and even one square lobed Leineweber. I think they or at least one is (possibly) developing a bleed down issue giving me harder cold starts but other than that no concerns, run great and quiet.

Hanging out on the TC board these days is telling me the preferred lifter of the day is the S&S premiums. Others are suggesting the S&S standard is plenty enough lifter and much less expensive than the premium.  There are other good options too but all I know is other S&S products have worked well for me.

current hd lifters have no issues that i heard of and come around 200$, your engine came with johnsons, they have and upgrade lifter as well as the standard.  comes down to price really, dont think that buying any of the lifters you asked about makes them made in usa or better than any other, alot of the lifters these days are offshore.

still cant wrap my head around the cost of a evo lifter set??  wtf

just to add to my post, the evl5005 in a 80 mill is my favorite camshafts overall :chop:

Don't know if there's any relationship between Crane's lifters now and in 2004, but I've put around 80,000 miles on a set from back then with no issues.
As far as Fueling lifters, I've never heard of them.  There is a Feuling Parts Company that makes motorcycle parts, including lifters, but I have no personal experience with them.
