I want to give a shout out to Lyndall Brakes and thanks to Rick/04 SE Deuce

I mentioned in several threads here that I had been disappointed with my Lyndall brake pad purchase despite their excellent reputation. The sets I purchased stopped well but made noise from day one despite my best efforts for a perfect installation.

At Rick's recommendation I contacted Lyndall and they immediately stepped up and sent me new pads, no questions asked. I was very pleasantly surprised at their level of customer service. Kind of rare to find companies that stand behind their products to that degree.

I won't buy anything else from here on.

It's refreshing to hear "props" about a companies customer service.  Seams like customer service is a thing of the past anymore with some of the bigger places.  Are the new pads quieter?

Did the new pads solve the problem?

I'm not leaving til I have a good time

No issues here with my Lyndall pads, I did not expect or ever thought the pads provided any additional stopping power.

I installed mine when my bike was new back in 2005 with 1 purpose that they met with stellar results...NO DUST.  My OEM rims still look like the day I picked up my bike now a decade ago.

So I agree kudos to Lyndall pads

Mike I haven't installed them yet, kinda cold here in Colorado right now. But I will install them before spring and report back on the results.

05, that's the same reason I bought them. The stock pads had my wheels always looking black and hard to clean. I wanted no/less dust and the Lyndall Gold pads delivered on that front. The stockers stopped well and squeaked once in a blue moon. The Lyndall's pad composition was lighter in color and of course kept the wheels looking good but squeaked incessantly. The replacements they sent are dark in color, but I'd rather clean the wheels than listen to a squeal every time I stop. I did hope the Golds would stop better but they did not, maybe not even quite as good as stock but I didn't care either - as I realize I'm not riding a sport bike and really wanted cleaner wheels/less dust.
Looks like I may have to live with cleaning wheels  :nix: I'll be sure to report back, package says "Cool Clean Quiet"
The pads they sent are their Xtreme Performance series...time will tell. Either way I'm appreciative and grateful to them for stepping up.

IME the Gold+ has a significant increase in braking power over the 2004 oem pads that came on my bike.  You guys may want to try Lyndall's new HH rated Extreme pads,  just add an X suffix to the part number.

IME Paul gives good customer service,  some situations could have to do with the reasonableness of the customer.   -Rick

Exact same experience I had with Paul.

What kind of noise were they making?

sfmichael

just squealing - on almost every stop. particularly under light stopping pressure

otherwise performance was perfect and wheels stayed clean

Make sure you clean your calipers really really well. Extend the puck as far as you safely can and scrub em and floss em. Don't forget the anti rattle clip as well. I use silicone brake grease on the pad back, clip and pins. Very rarely had an issue of noise with new pads and when I did, a re-cleaning took of it. Then they wouldn't make a sound after that. Good pads IMHO.

Did all that except extending the piston. I've been installing brakes on cars for 30 yrs and am borderline anal about proper procedures. Just one of those things that happen from time to time. If I were going to the trouble to remove and re-clean, they were going to be replaced.

Interesting about the noise I had the exact same issue with the OEM pads on my 1999 RKC. I replaced the OEM's with Lyndall's and the noise went away, go figure right.

I never tried this but it was suggested to me to try and file down the leading edge only small area  of the pad directly where it meets the rotor, I hate that squeal also.

Funny how that works, right?   :banghead:

I have done that with some success on cars, in fact some pads now come that way out of the box - must be some merit to it. I'm old enough to remember the transition away from asbestos and the learning curve there for manufacturers was horrendous. I had to get creative with my noise suppression techniques. Brake noise was a huge problem in the 80's and I learned a lot of tricks because of it. Best tricks are clean, meticulous assembly with lube in all the right places and optimal rotor finish and cleanliness. But I know a few more for the real problem children. Have yet to have one I couldn't fix. Sometimes it takes a different brand or type of pad.
I just didn't want to take these off and on several times to experiment, especially on the back of my Deuce. I don't have a lift and while they're not terribly difficult, it ain't no 5 minute job either. Really happy they hooked me up, maybe I'll play with the fronts before I throw in the towel. Either way, thumbs up to Lyndall.

Brake noise is nothing new. I had a 1940 Plymouth that had springs wrapped around the drums to suppress noise and/or chatter.
Just a little factoid.
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.
