I'm in the early stages of planning our groups June '09 Trip. (8 Days) From NC up to the Northeast and back. At this time I'm looking for help on what sites and roads we should take and see as we go through the Adorondack mountains and also the Catskill's. Any suggestion from people who have done this ride or live in the area will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Back in 2002 coming back from Laconia I got on  NY 28 after stopping at Fort Ann Hd and made it into Utica just about dark. Say 2 to 2 1/2 hour ride up the Hudson river and thru some awesome lake vacation areas where the lakes come right up to the side of the road! Lots of twists and turns. That road was built for MC riding!

Dan,

Hi, this is Lege. The biggest problem we met this summer on our trip to NY, Vt and N.H. was Pennsylvania. The roads just suck. On the way back we just opted for getting on HW-81 and suffering thru it as quickly as possible.

As for roads to ride in NY I would recommend the Taconic Parkway and Rt. 22 (take you up the east side of NY). The parkway is 4 lane with wide natural median (think 65 mph Blue Ridge Pkwy) and Rt. 22 is 2-lane and wonderful. Both are rural (well, the lower of end of the Parkway will take you thru the Bronx and Long Island).

Rt. 3 is another great ride (Watertown in W. NY to Plattsburg on Lake Champlain) which will take you thru the heart of the Adirondikes. Have fun on the SG.

Check out state rt. 26 going north out of Utica. Goes up into the Adirondack Mtns. More twists and turns, makes for a great ride and the scenery is awesome. There are a few oldtime motels along the way but make reservations ahead of time. There is a KOA campground in Old Forge, NY.Hope this helps, check it out.

I have spent a lot of time camping, fishing and riding up there... I use to attend Americade too which is held at Lake George...Route 30 from Malone to Scandaga is a beauty...Routes 28 and 28 N...Route 73 to Route 3...9N along Lake George...All these Routes are in great shape and easy access from Lake George...If you have the time check out Vermont...Did a trip last year through Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont...Absolutely beautiful...There is a great place for lunch/dinner at the Adirondack Hotel on Long Lake...They also have a guy there that has 2 sea planes and will take you for a great ride...Just my wife and I were the only ones on the plane so we slipped him an extra $20 and he took us all over the place...Don't miss the Adirondack Museum which is a must see...Enjoy yourself and bring a warm jacket...It can be very cool on those June mornings...
