You guys have some sweet bikes.
1998 FXDL (Lowrider).  I looked high and low for a Fatboy head breather, without fuel injection but basically stock...or so.  No joy.  Found this.
Got it in the fall of 2010 with 4500 miles and went to work.  Replaced leaky base gaskets with mls Cometic top and bottom.  Samson mufflers and split the stock header pipes.  Re-jetted stock carb.  Discovered a Toyota freeze-out plug capped them off perfect.  In 2013 with 20,000 miles showing I went into the cam chest.  New inner cam bearing, EV-27 cam, Johnson Hy-lifts, Andrews pushrods and S & S steel breather gear.  Fattened up the carb one size.  40,000 miles at present.  May leave it alone.

Old, slow and fat...

The build sheet:
Stock 80 cubic inch motor
Flywheels rebuild/balanced by Darkhorse (smooth as silk at 75--80mph!)
Crankcase and oil pump by Ultima
Heads cut .060" (9.5:1 C/R) and mild port by RE Engineering
Crane 300-2B Cam
S&S Hi-4N single fire ignition
Exhaust Pipes no-name from ebay, Python maybe?? Who knows.
Handlebar controls early 2000's
Clutch, compensator, outer primary cover, and trans shift drum from a 2005 Softail
Fuel tanks from a FXSTC, 5.25 gallon

Just about everything else is bone stock. I am going to put a early 2000's era four puck caliper on it as soon as the left side fork leg gets back from the chrome shop, and that will be it. I have a set of restored Heritage saddle bags for it also, but I like the stripped down look better.

My new to me 1998 FXDL custom paint. It has been in storage for about 20 years so I have been cleaning and restoring for a month now. Should be ready in a few weeks to start riding.

It's amazing how the right scenery can hide a lot of flaws.
