Does anyone have a better idea than the piece of crap battery removal strap that torn in 2 when I just put the battery back in. Oh well, at least the bike started after sitting in the garage for 5 months. Thanks in advance.

I've used 3/4" wide plastic banding. You know, just like metal banding used for a heavy crate or packages, only plastic. I used the industrial type, not the cheap stuff that comes on a box from UPS, etc. I use two pieces, make them long enough to overlap the top of the battery and tuck back along the sides to keep them in place.

Like this stuff

Probably void the warranty. :hyst:

Friend of mine showed me his trick. He has kept 2 of the battery terminal bolts. When he needs to pull the battery out, he screws these in the top terminals of the battery and grabs them with channel locks. Works for him.

Here's another option I found ....google..... "OEM 25316 Battery Carrier". Useful and not too expensive.

I run Nashua Tape around the battery, folding it back on itself at the top to make a handle.   I'll take a pic to post after this coffee is done.

The instant airframe tape has been working well for me for years, get a new battery, fit a new handle.

use the strap for the passenger hold its useless for anything else and will hold up better

2 100mm long 6mm bolts.
screw into top of posts and use
them to lift it out.
Only works on batteries
that have top holes, duh

Mine still had the OEM (2012) when I replaced the battery this year for the first time. It worked to lift it out, but broke and dropped the battery in place when re-installing.
It was the first and only time it was used.... I agree with using the strapping material that come on packages.

The tape solution is exactly what I do. Isn't it great that we have to put a dollar's worth of tape around the battery on a $20k plus motorcycle? The MoCo's priority list really does put common sense and the customer at the bottom...

Just put a zip tie around the middle of the battery and use that to pull it out.

Thanks for all the feedback....lots of options to choose from and of course there's always mans best friend...duct tape!

On the larger bagger batteries I use a small (2" diameter) suction cup with a handle across the top of it made from a piece of metal you can buy in the hardware store (straight one with the holes in it), push down on the thing and lift the battery out.  Softail is just a thick piece of rubber with two holes in it, one at each end, thread the cable bolt into the battery and lift it out.  I picked up extra bolts for this and they are about 1/4" longer than stock.  Side mounts will work to, just a bit harder to thread the bolts in.  I like these systems since I can easily move the batteries around the shop.  Of course you could just buy a Shorai, they weight almost nothing and can be easily pulled out of the trays.
