Rolling down the highway I look at my speedo and it indicates about 50kph. Well I know I was going faster than that and the tach verified I was at around 100kph. So the highly intelligent electronic speedo was dividing by 2.  Happened twice intermittently. Cleaned the speed sensor and all seems good now.
Bike has a few miles on it and the sensor had some dark grey residue and a bit of fuzz.

Thought I would share this in case any of you run up against a speedo attempting math.
2000 FXDS with 163,000 kilos which is just a hair over 100,000 miles. Redline in the tranny.

jadyna, I had a 2000 FXDX that did the same thing. When it happens, reach down and turn key off and on real fast and you're good to go. I didn't feel like tearing things apart. Hate working on electrical gremlins. Loved the bike though.

there's fine metal debris usually from normal wear collecting on the speedo sensor when you turn the power off and back on it gives it a chance to wash off the sensor till next time

Thanks Harleyfarmer. It is intermittent so I will try this should it happen again.

My 00 FXDS had similar problems and I found the two wire sensor on the tranny had something to do with it also... (loose dirty connections there)
Then I put in a set of 6 speed gears and it read 50% all the time... :hyst:

Showing 25 MPH would actually be 50 MPH and the mileage was the same, 1/2 of what should have been registered...

A ? 200$ box elevated that... Setting it up to a proper MPH... Actually you could hook up the Box and set it to any speed you wanted it to show...
That was long ago and I still miss that HOT 95" FXDS...

Ever get a backfire when you cycle the key?
