Anyone done a swap using this cam yet?

Matt C

Yes. What do you want to know?

Matt C

Similar to 48's. (Bolt-in bagger 103 cams)

04 SE Deuce

Closer to an Andrews 57,   2* less intake duration (closes 2* earlier) and the exhaust lobe advanced 1*.  -Rick

We have done two sets so far, they make some good TQ.

I tuned one of the dealer installed stage III kits with those cams, nice torque curve.

Do stock valve springs work?  Or do they need to be replaced.

Harley recommended the high lift spring kit.

same spring kit that is used on the SE CNC heads?
Are they noisy?
Acts 4:12

curious how the  ## look  using the se or cnc heads and the 58 mm tb with the high compression pistons.  they should be making good hp and tq for sure. not  a hot rod 107, but i assume it would pull hard where most ride 95% of the time?

Don D

234deg can will want near stock compression.

Did a valvejob and surface for a local dealer...neither exhaust valve was sealing from the factory....bike had 377 miles on it.

bike had the new cobra crossover dual with cobra mufflers,rc comp air cleaner and SERT made 99/113 and

  100 ft lbs @ 2400

If you need to retain the warranty why not but there are better cams id pick

Stock springs are fine

that was stock heads?

TorQuePimp

The heads were surfaced about .004 ish to make them flat and they received a valvejob.

I blasted them to clean them and what powder coating that didn't want to come out of the intake port was sanded out.

Not stock ,do they flow more than stock ? yes but not a lot.

I think they used a .040 gasket but I would not swear to it.

FYI: I put these in my 96" RoadKing.  I love the flat TQ curve

I happened to have a ride uploaded from the RPMitUp App on my phone from before:

Forgive this first time post, but I am way new to this forum thing.  If this is not the right place to put this, please let me know and I will do better next time.

I would like to use the H-D 585 cam in a really mild build on a 103", 2013 Road King with just 2,200 miles on it consisting of Screamin' Eagle Stage I air, True Duals, Rinehart slip-ons, stock heads & valve springs, S&S tappets, and Screamin' Eagle pushrods.  My dealer tells me that the 585 cam is only for 2014 and up.

My alternative is the 204 cam in the same mild build.  I have good experience with that cam in a previous 96" Super Glide.

Questions: 585 or 204?  If 585, what do I have to do to make it work?

Current dyno is attached (if I work this right...)

Just install the cams....change the cam bearings.....new lifters (many options) and throw the true duals in the garbage and buy a good headpipe

Your dealer said that?  lol.   Maybe don't go there anymore for performance mods.  As I've read many times over here, the 585's like compression upwards of 10.5 to 1.  You won't get there if you bolt those on with stock heads, pistons, and gaskets.  My guess is they will be duds at stock compression....9.6:1 for 103 I think.  I'll let the pros chime in.

Just like the TW57 the SE585 will be fine as a bolt in cam for a 103. With a good head pipe and tune you would see about a 10/10 gain over what you have now.
Durwoods bike is in the dyno section with a TW57 and there a few more as well as some SE585 graphs to look at.

The SE585's are newer cams with a 36*IVC.

Wow, you guys rock!  Three say to bolt in the 585.  One says the compression will be too low, but defers to the pros.  Two are laughing at the dealer and the Harley docs that say that the cam won't fit my bike.  Consensus seems to be to bolt in the 585, buy a good head pipe, tune, and ride!

Barrett, I'm not clever about these things, but it appears that you are saying that the 585 features an intake valve closing at 36 degrees After Bottom Dead Center.  That closely follows the 204 cam's intake valve closing at 34 degrees After Bottom Dead Center.  Is the difference in performance, then, the amount of valve lift?  And do you believe that it will bolt into my 103" with stock heads?

Harley says to use different springs with the SE 585 and they do like 10:5.1 compression. we have done three builds with these cams and but never on a stock 103". 2011 FLHR 103" SE 585 cams,SE 10:5.1 pistons,SE CNC heads, cometic .040" head gasket,Vance & Hines true duals with monster ovals, PC-5.
