I've put a set of race tech gold valve emulators and springs in my 01 FLHT, and now planning to do so on my 05 roadglide.  I'm still a virgin at cracking open the shark nose though, so I'm just wondering is this going to be more of a pain in the ass than it was on the FLHT?

Any tips??  I've kinda wondered if this job might be doable without removing the fairing in the first place.
There's nothing better than riding with friends!

You don't need to take the fairing off, Just the speedo, tach, Ign switch and side covers on the forks. Kinda tight but not a big deal.

RG65 has it right.  A bit of work to get the nacelle and side covers off, but not hard--just time consuming.  Keeps me from taking mine down again to install the Racetech springs I bought in December.  I have procrastinated long enough, need to get it done.

The gauges all unplug easy enough, just need to disengage the locking tab on each connector.  Removing the ignition switch is a bugger on mine, and dont turn it once you get the switch knob off the bike.  Getting everything back in line to reinsert the switch can be a lesson in patience.  But, same as the FLHT, I suppose.

If you can avoid taking the fairing off do so!
First class pain.
And if you do take it off, take a lot of photos of how the many wiring looms inside fit together! I did, and I was very glad that for once I took the time to be thorough.

On my 99 I have to remove the decal on the ignition switch to get at the 4 screws underneath - which were covered by plugs on my UK bike by the way.I had to drill them out.
And don't forget to buy a new decal.

One other tip if you havent allready change it, take a drimmel and cut the side cover plate out for the handle bars. Makes changing the bars a snap.

I just did this very thing last weekend, not once, not twice but three damn times!!!
You can pull the the tubes with out pulling the fairing. Just pull the speedo and nacelle and you can access everything you need to. You'll also need to pull the front tire and fender so that you can service the tubes one at a time.

I think you have two different types of fork setups on the 05!  Can't remember the two type names (alzimers).
