Hello all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  Here's a look at my background:

BLUF:  I have to put the first thousand miles on a brand new '15 Fat Boy and I know nothing about the bike.

BACK STORY (if you've got the time):

I've been ridin' for about forever (45 years, 350,000+ miles).  Have ridden several Harleys over the years.  Liked 'em, but have never owned one.

My cuz (who drives truck up on the Bakken) dropped in the other day and surprised everyone when he bought a brand new Fat Boy (the dealer gave him an offer he couldn't refuse, evidently).

Well, he dropped it off in my garage with 50 miles on the clock and went back to ND with the Owner's Manual.  Just yesterday, he called and asked me to put 1000 miles on the bike and then bring it in for the first service (I told him I'd be happy to!).  His plan is to come back here in early July and ride it back to his home in Minnesota.

My problems:

1. I don't know how the ignition key works.

2. Once I get the bike started, I don't know how to scroll through the various info screens on the LCD(?) display.

3. I don't know how to check the engine oil.

4. I don't know how to check the gearbox oil.

5. I don't know what the recommended tire pressures are.

Other than that, I'm full up!

I'd appreciate any links or info anyone could provide (a link to an Owner's Manual would be the best...).

Sorry for this weird request...
Enjoying the ride.

Your #'s.....3.....4.....5..... should Not be a problem. IF services properly... Tires checked Now then keep them there... 35 to 42 in the front and 38 to 40 in the rear will work just fine... (copy what is in the tires for now if within the suggested above range)

Suggest you just Go to your local HD Shop and Look and ASK... The'll be happy to answer your questions and have a Demo on the floor to help you Learn from...

Showing you where to check the Motor Oil "Daily after your ride"... The primary and tranny should not need checking Unless Oil under the parked bike... BUT they will show you How and where it is located if you think it is needed...

The computer is Not in my Vocabulary for Operating A Bike... Computers Should be on a table or in your Lap,   Not on the Bike...

Hooking up my PC on My SE off road Tuner to Bike is good though.... :SM:

Break it in like you stole it. They should always need a new rear tire after the first 1000 miles. Burn that bitc h off.

Stagger your rpms don't jump on the highway and run 80 miles a hour for a few hundred miles to rack up the miles, do not get the bike to hot and varry the rpm it's easy and don't pull the clutch in to slow down you want the pressure on both sides of the rings so engine braking is good. Never lugg the engine during break in or other wise it's not good.
I'm never wrong , once I thought I was wrong , but I was wrong

In other words, don't baby it, don't beat the "Potty mouth" out of it.

UPDATE:

I've got almost 600 miles on the bike and am enjoying it.  I'm glad the "hard work" portion of the break-in is complete, though!

I've only got one more task to complete.  The engine now has enough miles on it so that Harley's rpm restriction is lifted.  This is when I normally run a new engine up to redline once or twice to kind of cap off the break-in procedure.

QUESTIONS:

What is redline on this engine (it is a standard 2015 Fat Boy)?  Do I just run 'er up until I hit the rev limiter?  What rpm can I expect when said rev limiter is reached?

Thanks in advance!
Enjoying the ride.

When you hit the rev limiter It will just start cutting out or missing you might say.Stock it should be at 5800 rpm.             Coff 06

Thanks for that info, Coff...

I ran 'er up to the limiter using partial throttle in second.

Was going about 65 mph @ ~5400-5500 rpm when the limiter was reached.  No drama, nice and smooth - this engine is a sweetheart!

Bike is now finished with its 1000 mile service and is good to go.  My cousin will pick it up in a few weeks.

Signing off for now...appreciate all of the friendly help over here!
Enjoying the ride.
