With all the recent news on here about wheel bearings, I figured its time to look at purchasing the install / remove tool so I can install new sealed bearings. I checked on Ebay and saw that there are options from $88 all the way up to a Jims set for $345. All (or most) claim to be made in the USA. I have purchased most my specialty tools from Georges and no complaints. But they are $100 more than a lot of others. Anyone have experience with the other guys? ( i know how this can type of thread can deteriorate, Im just wondering how the lower cost tools compare for the home mechanic).

It must be true,I read it on the internet.

I have the Heartland products wheel bearing tool. The one thing I don't understand about it is the pusher "washers" have a raised lip on them so they push on the outer race only. Fine for the first bearing, but when pushing in the second bearing shouldn't you push the inner and outer race at the same time so you drive the bearing up to the spacer? I flip the washer over to use the flat side.

Any comments?
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I do the same with it UB. I guess I don't see it as a problem, it's just how it should be done.

I was just wondering if I was misunderstanding something.

I don't think so. I had to look at it the first time too.

You are correct.. Only time you can use a raised outer tool is when the inner spacer is within a thou of the outer spacing.. I have the Hartland tool and use the back side (flat side) as soon as the second bearing is below the outer lip of the wheel..

I use the pit posse wheel bearing tool for about $110, you get the 1", 25mm and 3/4" collets with the tool

I has to cut down and reshape the 3/4 inch bearing puller.. It was too big and wouldn't even fit in the bearing...
