yep, was at local coffee/t-shirt/harley shop.
walked in for coffee.  was a slow day.
sales critter talking to receptionist girl.
sales guy nodded and said what did I want to take home.
well, I say, how bad you wanna sell a road king.
he straightened right up, put is best sales face on and approached.
I got that buell out there for a trade in.

he stopped cold.  looked out door to see if I was serious. saw ol yeller and just laughed and shook head.

there are some buell guys out there he says. should find one and sell to him/her.
nice way to avoid the trade in issue I say.
off to coffee.

On to the next dealer.....

Business must be real good.......didn't need yours.
Wait till he's eating hot dogs for dinner then he'll do some trading.
Everyone wants to change the world but, no one wants to change the toilet paper.

So, what I am hearing is you have a yellow Buell  for sale? Lets see it. Someone here might want it.
'We' like this' - Said by the one man operation.

lol.  well, I really wanted coffee.
was just jerking his chain on trade in.
woke him up.

if I do get a king will keep what I have.
but am looking not too many years ahead at the day I will have to stop riding.

Gary, go three wheels brother. Don't stop, adapt!

LOL
so was hot dog day yesterday at local h-d store.
I rode my hot rod 1974 sporty in.
(the one in my profile pix)
same salesman remembered me.
you still want that RK? he asked.
sure, but I did not bring buell in for trade in.
come on outside.

you can guess the reaction.

It's just wrong to laugh at an Ironhead that's running. Those things go through hell to stay on the road, they should be respected, dammit!

yep. and if/when I buy another new one.
guess who is NOT getting the commission?

tomcat64

just remember there is a person in that store responsible for setting a trade value for that Buell,, or ironhead,, and that person is also responsible for selling it.. (that would be me in this store!) I will trade in anything that HD built,, but when it comes to Buells I get a buy bid from a sport bike dealer,, they know that market,, not me.. as for shovels, ironheads, pan,, those I'm pretty comfortable with,, and a lot of time they old ones end up in may garage.. I will agree that not giving you a number,, no matter what that number is.. is unacceptable!

garyajaz

its not just no number.
its laughing me out of the store.

Any good salesman won't laugh or disparage any machine that is offered for trade.  Some helpful suggestions of how and where the potential new customer can unload his POS, may well help his paycheck next week/month.  Even if it's totally worthless, there's professional ways to handle it without losing a sale.
I'm starting to believe my body is gonna outlast my mind.

When I bought my first new car, I asked about trading in my POS that I drove in. He looked at it and said matter of factly, "It won't help the deal."
I could accept that answer.
