If the government gives you everything you want,
it can take everything you have.

Took 'em long enough [if that is the project they were starting last spring].
But...Success is always sweet...
Does it fit in the Harley drags Rules??

westcomb

No ...not with a 143 .
Had a hell of a 60 ft though .

Maybe...but they had plenty of offers of Help!!!!
Oddly...Gregg is one of S&S better [larger volume] Dealers...yet they ignore him and his "abilities" and choose to reinvent the wheel. Witness this "race" program!!!
Not to mention the fact that Gregg and Dennis, and Paul, and of course Stroker Jim, does it at Nationally Sanctioned [official] Events...
S&S likes Obscure Venues..for "proving". Kinda Like H-D did with the Destroyer Program...All Quiet untill they get the Desired Result...then Revelations and Celebrations!!
No One likes to be the Runner-Up...but...if no-one was Runner-up..there would Not be a Race...
Speaking of which...I really now wanna have that "other Class" me and Jim was speaking of...
Give that bike a Chance to actually Compete!!!

I saw this on FB this morning.  Don't care about the venue.  9.96 @ 134 is getting it done.

I really though the 143 would catch on better than it has .
I expected there would be some interest ,in a place to run .
Maybe the street outlaw type class would bring them in .
I expect a couple of the street dressers would go bigger and compete as well . ( a 117 ci running 9.95 for one )
But that takes away from a class that still needs to grow .

It would be a interesting class . And maybe bring more of theses low 9 bikes out of hibernation .

Since I got your attention.  Has ECE been looked into to replace the Snell standard?  It is a higher standard and most out of the USA have gone to it.  Western Power Sports, and Parts Unlimited, some of the biggest motorcycle parts and apparel distributors aren't even carrying a Snell approved helmet anymore.  Less and less helmet manufacture are willing to do the extra snell testing because they have already went above and beyond with ECE.  I am under the assumption that if something like AMRA accepted ECE.  Hopefully other associations will follow a long.

Hell yeah,
That's gettin it done! As said, 1.50's 60' is a hell of a launch for a bagger- or any Harley for that matter...

I don't know...The NHRA has Not stated such...We can do what we want ...within reason..We were the first to require Parachutes for Fuelers under 6 sec. and over 200MPH...Maybe I need more info about that helmet stuff...and...of Course, it needs to be "Enforceable"...
Send me some info in a PM or an e-Mail...Thanks

Won't change the RuleBook until after the Awards Banquet ....

We even have some interest in a StreetStock class...probably the Most Difficult to Police however!!!!

THE "DUCT TAPE" SEAT IS AN INTERESTING MODIFICATION. I WONDER HOW MUCH A LOWER C/G MAKES TIME WISE?

About 3 tenths on my bike . But I was also figuring out how to ride the bike and get power to the track . I was going faster every round. So how much was the mod and how much was the seat time ?????. I have seen test on stock metric bikes making 3-5 tenths gain just with C/G change , and experienced rider .

No doubt, the Dragon is doing local street stuff in WI, and local tracks. Looking around, up to this point, there hasn't been a sanctioned heads up class for the Dragon to run has there?
As you know the purpose of the Dragon is for S&S to show what a stock, crate, street 143" bagger motor can do with chassis and other mods to make it go fast at the track-and get exposure, publicity, and sell more 143" motors. It's marketing 101...

A 143" crate motor stock makes 160-170 hp which might not even be competitive in the current 124" Bagger Class where Paul Victory owns all et and mph records- with almost 20 less cubes.

If a 150" or 160" Outlaw Bagger class becomes a reality, I sure would love to see the Dragon play, but the 143" motor would have to be redone to full race mode to be competitive. Probably gonna need at least 250 hp to play up there...and say bye bye to being a crate motor. S&S built the crate 124" when it came out at 130 or so hp and sponsored the AHDRA 124" class, but those motors quickly became "race only" 15-1 CR beasts with 200 hp plus to compete at the top...

I haven't seen anyone yet who is buying these 143" motors actually drag race them. I think most everyone is buying them to cruze around town in, have that big hp available to twist the throttle every once in a while, and show off to their buddies.
AHDRA had a Harley Davidson sponsored Screamin' Eagle bagger class to promote their 120R motor when it came out and sometimes there was not a single guy running, or maybe one or two. Hopefully more of the 143" bagger guys out there actually take them out and rip them at the track-I'm sure S&S hopes so...

did anyone notice the seat that guy was using on the Dragon T143 in the video?
...or should I say lack of a seat. It looks more like a thin piece of form fitted rubber that has more added back support to keep the rider planted in the seat.

http://www.superstreetbike.com/features/kawasaki-zx-14r-streetbike-street-legal-slayer

After establishing stout baseline numbers of 183.31 HP @ 109.6 LB-FT on the notoriously conservative dyno at Herrera Racing, we hit Auto Club Dragway in Fontana for some baseline drag-strip times.
On a damp, cool morning, the box-stock Kawi ran a string of 9.80s with a one-off Hail Mary time of 9.59 @ 150 MPH. In stock form it was a handful through the first three gears as anything nearing full throttle sent the front tire flying. Auggie and Gaige Herrera from Herrera Racing were at the helm, and they discovered that bogging off the line and flirting with full throttle through the first eighth mile was the quickest method to a better ET. The high 9.50 ET was hardly repeatable, as Gaige could barely keep the ZX-14R planted and pointed straight.
The stock bike had more power than its height could harness, so the first order of business was lowering the ride height. It was an easy and inexpensive fix thanks to Roaring Toyz lowering links and Brock's Performance lowering straps. To ensure the motor was protected from the rigors of racing, Amsoil synthetic 10W-40 oil was added along with a K&N oil filter.
With the stance slammed, another trip to Fontana netted a more consistent string of 9.40s with a best of 9.30 @ 151 MPH. But low stance or not, it still wheelied in first and second gear. The factory stroker motor makes so much midrange that the decked ride height didn't matter, WOT was impossible until half-track. It was a great start, but the 14 was still a long way from the 8s.
