Typically, how many miles will an Evo 1200C ('04) run before needing the engine opened up? The maintenance schedule is followed religiously, and fluids are frequently checked. HD full synthetic has been run since since 500 miles. The bike is never ridden hard - no slugging, no high revving, no hard acceleration (in fact, WOT just ONCE since new), never been raced (Even light to light), reasonably warmed up prior to rides, etc. The bike has never overheated. (I hear they often do?) I've heard of guys getting 60+k on maintenance only. Often, I catch flack from the Jap cruisers, who claim they've gotten 100k with no more than maintenance. I guess I'm asking because the answers I get vary so much that I hoped to hear from someone who has experience with a higher mileage motor. I understand that Harley's were once know for being mechanically inferior to others. Is this true for newer engines, like my '04 1200C? My dad currently owns a '99 Valkyrie, & is on the market for a bagger. He rides a good bit, & 8k per year is a low mileage for him. He is very happy with his '99 Valkyrie, & is leaning toward a new Wing. Thanks, Steve

Can't say for sure on a sporty but Evo big twins can pretty typically go to 100,000 miles, especially if ridden like yours. The sportster platform is a pretty solid design. How many miles so far?
My '95 heritage had 50,000 abusive miles-raced hard, over revved many times-with regular maintenance and ran great with no problems when I sold it.

Besides, the metric guys are bragging about hi mileage because that's all they have! They all wish they had a Harley!

metric bikes don't compare to the low tec harley  ive had many of each and the jap hands down will last longer

You will easily get 100K out of a evo sprtster.  No problem

Who in their right mind would compare a Japper to a HD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyst:
,One is owned by a select "few" ,  the other is for the general public.
