A fellow rider has brought me a set of chromed sliders to put on his 2009 Heritage Softail. I have two concerns.

1) The new sliders do not have the cast in cup that the bottom of the damper tube would fit into. Otherwise they appear identical. Looks like numbers got sanded of before plating but still has the "SHOWA" cast in between the fender mount holes.

2) The bore seems a little rough to me. Is this normal for new sliders and they just get polished through use or are  these probably some '"imported" knock off silders. Looks like he got them through ebay from CA. Still investigating source.

I obviously don't want to put together something thats going to cause future problems.
Any thoughts welcomed, thanks!

the cup is not cast in. the fork oil makes them stick in the leg. the Harley part slips over the dampner. the chrome shop probably lost them. if hd doesn't have them try v-twin or jp cycle.

Thanks dr evo1! The cups came right out with a slight tap. Now about that bore texture. Its pretty matte. I hope thats normal and the bushing just needs to seat in like rings in a cylinder. Anyone?

I would not use them. It sounds like the bore was not sealed off during the plating process. The bore should be smooth and just about a polished surface. With the rough finish, as you described, the fork will have lots of stiction and will be stiff going over bumps. In short time, the rough bore will tear up and wear out the soft plastic bushings.
