Dynos are great for getting the motor close enough to get on the data loggers.

Andy I"ve seen that video before and what I find most interesting about it, and I have no doubt it applies to the future of HD tuning as well, is this one little comment he makes between 11:00 to 11:25.  So just maybe Thundermax wasn't that far off in their vision years ago after all?   :potstir:

That has a lot to do with I run a Motec in my Seadoo.  With the hacked stock maps, the requested timing in the timing table was not what was happening at the crankshaft and reported by the loggers.
Dynos are great for getting the motor close enough to get on the data loggers.

This spring I Bought my wife a used BMW Z3 for our 35 Anniversary ( Ya Im OLD ) lol  its a 2.5I originally from CA .....the amount of products for it is unreal...including from Dinan ....a Nice Cold Air intake Kit....etc...still playing with things but I already have a lot of software etc to read codes...re set Faults and Engine systems ...the performance I have Gained is more getting it back to like new from the 13 year old car it is  :up:

Awesome video.   I'm fairly new to the HD thing and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.   I'm a toolmaker by trade so I'm pretty mechanical.  My father was an auto mechanic so I have some basic automobile knowledge. 

Ultimately I would like to build and tune my own bikes.    This site is full of knowledgeable people and good info.

Is surprising how simply just having a all-round nice boss can make the brand so much more appealing.

EFI gets easier to understand once you get thru the basics.  I tend to see it thru the math side of things.  Figure out how much air is going in right now and quick match it up with the right amount of fuel.

Well he started off on the wrong foot for me.. He assumes that all motors seem to have the same power curve and that you can only effect it by adjusting cam and ignition timing while getting the fueling correct..  He totally ignores the fact that the intake and exhaust systems are in themselves tunable. Also they may have more than one point where they perform well..   The rest is pretty good tho I guess he forgot about looking at plugs for signs of detonation. He also seems to imply that a knock sensor will find best timing.. IMO you can still have too much timing and not detonate..

Just think what happens when some hot-rodder wants to run a air horn out in the breeze without an air filter.  Hint, your pants smell bad and the motor runs way leaner than it did on the dyno.

Max, keep in mind that he sees the world thru BMW colored glasses.  BMW tends to leave very little HP on the table, so going backwards is really easy when messing with them.

Dyno testing like the pros.  A friend of mine works for a stock car team and they spend a million dollars a year just writing programs to have simulations of every track they run.  They study data logs to duplicate the engine pressures, air flow, temperatures, speeds and throttle positions of the entire race.  Including the pit stops and cautions.  Way cool stuff.
