Hi, just wondering if anyone could advize me about a battery change.
My wife's 2011 Nightster had a battery die on it about 18 months ago and we replaced it with a genuine Harley 65958-0-4 battery. Well, that battery has died too. Here in Japan the genuine battery runs out at around $270 USD equivalent.
My question...is there any reason I couldn't or shouldn't replace the battery with a Yuasa YTX14L-BS ?
12 Ah  and 200CCA.
Any advice appreciated as this will be the fourth battery I've bought from Harley in the past 3 years for my and her bikes...that's over a $1000  :emsad:

My first choice would be Yuasa GYZ16HL ,240c.c.a second choice YTX14L-BS. The gyz has the flush terminals, ytx uses a spacer.

Thanks for the advice bootit!
I ordered one online now and it was half  the cost of the Harley dealer battery.
Cheers.
PS: Does anyone know off the top of their head an alternative battery for my 2001 Heritage Softail FLSTC?

I'm still having battery problems, any advice appreciated.
I charged up the new Yuasa  GYZ16HL and installed it in the bike.
It ran fine at first but after I switched the engine off after my first ride it wont start again.
What I mean is that the whole system seems dead. Nothing...zilch.
When I play with the postive lead it sometimes comes alive but when I hit the start button all I get is a loud clunk noise and everything dies again.
I thought this was a fault in the poitive lead but for whatever reason this doesn't occur when I put an original Harley battery in the bike. I thought the connection at the positive post might be the issue but even after I put dielectic grease on the terminal and screwed everything down good and tight...the same problem occurs but only with the Yuasa.
Surely the bike isn't that sensitive to make of battery?

Altho it has not happened to me, I have heard of batteries having bad internal connection. Assuming battery cables are clean and corrosion free, I would remove the battery, connect a load to it,(example light or volt meter) and wiggle the battery posts to see if you can duplicate the intermediate loosing connection. Could be a bad battery. Like anything else, sometimes you just get a bad one.
I had purchased a new battery several years ago for one of my autos which would get so hot while driving, it would boil. I returned it to the parts store, and the salesman said "yeh we have had problems with those batteries.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies cheetah and bootit.
I made a dumbass mistake it seems.  :embarrassed:
Okay, so this battery allows for battery cables to be fitted to the top OR front of the battery terminals.
The Nightster requires the leads to be fitted to the front of the battery. To enable this it comes with a couple of brass plates to allow clearance. I (wrongly thought) a dab of loctite would help to keep them in place when fitting and not be a problem.
Well, after I pulled the battery and cleaned the loctite off the plates all if fine!
I couldn't believe it but that must have been the problem.  :embarrassed:
I did this to myself.  :slap:

Glad you found it.

got a new Duracell AGM battery for my 96 Springer and it came with those brass spaces, and the option to mount the cables on top, I opted to stay with the original side mount, but I have to tell ya, I had to remove that battery 3 times because I dropped the screws while connecting the NEG and those screws are NOT magnetic.  :banghead:
