I am not really sure what your working on ,I would put the race in freezer for few hours and heat the cup to 600 degrees and the race should drop right in.

600 degrees?! :crook: Whatever he is working on won't be worth  :turd: after that. Even on the big mining equipment we stayed around 350*. What are you working on sandyR?

So your wanting to install the cups into the frame head?

If yes you need to put them in the freezer, then later they will drop straight in, another option when fridge/freezers are not available is to tap them in using a large drift, a large socket or one of the old cups that came out which is how one would replace the bearings and cups on a 6x4 trailer.

I don't use the tool. I gently heat the neck (don't wreck the paint!) then start the race squarely. I use a socket as far as I can and then use key stock (WAY softer than the race) to bottom it out. Works for me.

I am wanting to install the neck bearing race into the cup not the cup into the frame neck. Thanks, SR

As has been said , put the Race(s) in the Freezer for an hour & be ready to install the Race as soon as it comes out of the Freezer ,of course that would be if the Frame/Cup were @ room temperature ( like inside your house ), if not ,carefully warm them up . The race should tap in easily using a proper sized Socket .

Thanks for the help. I tried putting them in the freezer and no luck. I ended up putting a little more bevel on the bottom of the race to get them started straight, got them in but was still a bitch.
Thanks again,
