Can someone give me some pointers on replacing or repairing the ring gears on a 69 fl 4speed electric start? Thanks in advance

Someplace like JP Cycles probably sells the ring gear. Maybe even your local H-D dealer or one of the vendors here could come up with one. I cheated and replaced the whole clutch shell in my 76 due to other wear and damage.  I would think if you measured closely then measured again you could cut the old one loose and weld the new one on being careful not to overheat the shell.

I have seen laminated ring gears and solid ring gears, I don't know which is "factory". I tore all hell out of a laminated one.

Good luck!

And...You can probably get a Superior OE complete Basket for less money, and get much better quality..
Newer ain't always better...especially with Steel wear parts.. My 1974 ring gear is still very nice...my friends year old ~ Crap..is...well Crap.

Anybody ever reuse the existing gears by grinding off the welds and rotating the gear? How about removing the gears and turning them around? Just thinking!

Since it's round and might stop (nearly) anywhere in that circle I am not sure what you'd gain by rotating it.

As far as flipping it, I don't recall if there is a lead-in on the ring like there is on the starter gear.  It has not been a high maintenance item for me except the laminated one that came apart.  I have changed a few starter gears due to the one-way clutch stripping out.
