A friend is spending the winter in the FL keys (yeah, I know, LOL!).  He's noticing accelerated corrosion of the chrome on his ride, suspects the salt air is causing it, wants to protect it.

He was going to use wax, thought he remembered someone telling him not to, but local bike shop says it's OK.

Wondered if wax on hot parts would burn on, or cause other problems.

What can y'all recommend for protection against sea air corrosion?

TIA

Tough to prevent.
Daily fresh water wash downs, blow dry. Wash from top downward.
Try using a product like ACF-50.
The Navy does the above. It is effective, up to a point.
They sell anti corrosion systems for vehicles, pricey and I don't know how well they work.
Spray the engine, etc with Pig Spit, S-100 or Silicon Spray, your choice.
Stay on top of it. Once you see corrosion, your behind the eight ball.
I grew up in Key West. Salt air is a mutha.

That's about all you can do is daily wash with fresh water. If you go around any of the Marinas down their every afternoon you will see most of the boats getting washed down with fresh water to keep the chrome hardware from pitting. The Keys are nice......the salt air is one of the prices you pay to stay their.

I lived on a small island(Anna Maria) on the Fl coast surrounded by salt water for 18 years. Not a friendly environment for ferrous metal. I have had a lot of experience dealing with corrosion on a daily basis. Wax,Wax and more wax will be your friend.Use it on everything shiny. It will have no adverse effect on exhaust.

I use S100 Corrosion Protection.  It seems to work for me. It's a clear spray and you can spray just about everything on the bike. I buy it at the local HD dealer, but I'm sure you can buy it on line from multiple sources.

Cover it with black powder coat...

I've used WD-40 on Non HOT areas, worked ok... Sprayed on before and after...

Moving to Az. instead of Flordia worked the best...  :SM:

Other than moving to Arid-zona, Sorry Bubbie  :smilep:  which right about now sounds like a good idea, I had some friends in Jersey the used a thin layer of Petroleum jelly to keep the chrome from pitting, rusting., don't think it would be good on exhaust  :idunno:

Star Brite makes a spray on corrosion protectant.   # 954 is their product number.

Anything to seal the surface, wax be the carnauba or synthetic works well but hard to aply. Wd40, silicone is good because it hits all the hard to get to spots and is cheap. My choice is pig spit. Wash the bike spray everything every two month, more in salty conditions.
My bike is fifteen years old, 175k live in fl and my chrome is still nice.

there is a cable program I watch called  Ship Shape Tv  it is a maintenance program that deals with large expensive salt water boats.
they recommend Shark Hide liquid to seal the chrome on those boats applied once a year.  www.sharkhide.com
should be some good stuff if it works on something in the salt water all the time
