Bikes a 01 roadking, new 120" motor.
Was having starter issues, lot of kick back. Put in a new all balls starter.

Now I have all the normal speed sensor issues, and maybe a couple others.  No signal lights, no tach, no light in the speedo, no reading on the speedo.
I recheck my work. Didn't see any disconnected, broken or pinched wires near the starter. And that's the only area I was in, other than disconnecting the battery.

Coincidence that the speed sensor went out at the same time ?
Is there anything else I should check out, or  just do the speed sensor and see what happens ? I hate to just throw parts at it. Not knowing what it really is.
Thanks

Any codes showing up?
Any fuses blown where a wire might have hit ground?
Let the others jump in here before you buy parts.

Sounds like something other than speed sensor. It shouldn't affect lighting, just turn signal canceling and bad speedo readings or no reading at all nd athe AVC if you have an intercom, which the Road King doesn't. Keep looking at the wires.
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

No codes, took a quick look at the fuses, but it was in the dark, I'll have to double check those.
Plus it was all working fine,  before I touched it. Lol. That's why I started with double checking my work. Figured it was more likely something I did than the speed sensor.

Does it run?
Does the headlight work?
It looks like the same ground does the speedometer, tach, front directional, headlight.

rking1550

Yes it runs. Didn't check the headlight.  But I think it was on m

Did you connect a wired ground to the starter?

Might have missed that one. I was going to ask if there's more grounds than just the battery cable. I think that's the only ground that got hooked up.

There should be a Black Ground Wire connected to the starter that goes to the Ground Stud in front of the battery.

Missing/Bad Grounds can cause all sorts of problems.

I don't remember  seeing that,  I'll have to look again. I'm pretty sure it was just the battery cable ground going directly to the battery.  That said, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong,  also it's a chrome starter, maybe not getting the best possible ground.

As well as the other parts that aren't working, check the horn and stop light also  to see if they are working and if they aren't , check your accessory fuse.
