My first post.   Have been a frequent guest of late.

Short version:
Compared new lifters to old and noticed rollers on new have more side to side movement than old from a 2002 Road King.  Also noticed the new roller doesn't seem quite as wide as the old ones.  I can return them, but it's not an issue, I might just run them.

Longer version:

I'm in the middle of a doing something to the tensioners on my 2002 Road King.   Original plan was just Cyco shoes and inner cam bearings.  Today I bought Andrews 21N, a 62400001 oil pump and the rest of the needed stock '07 parts.  Stuff should start arriving next week.   I bought the bike in 2012 with 7,000 miles on it and now have 30,000.   Maybe the 21's will get me out there more.

I was planning to keep the stock lifters, but since the exhaust lifters dropped right out I got to looking at them.  Saw some wear on one so I took the intakes ones out too.  Taking the second one apart, I lost the clip.   Thought about just replacing one with an 850-1, but for other reasons I bought a set of HyLift Johnson B-2313 off E-bay for about $70.

Over the weekend I was comparing the old and new ones, which are still in there little bags.    First and only thing I've really noticed is the roller was a tighter fit side to side on the stock ones.  I measured the loosest of the original ones as having about .012" play.  I can't measure the new ones without opening the bags, but I'm guessing they are .015 to maybe .020".   By eyeball, it also looks the roller isn't quite as wide as the ones that were in the bike.    Any issues?  Should I return them and get a set of Comp Cams 850-1?

Theres nothing wrong with the Hylifts. The side to side play really means nothing.  Its up & down movement of the roller you want to be concerned with. Once the new ones are in and run for a bit, the tolerances will probably be a lot less because of the oil that will get into the smaller areas of the lifter, roller, etc.

FWIW: I just checked a brand new Feuling and an S&S. Both have side to side movement...

The way I see it is you got two options
1: run them because they are fine and better then stock
2: sell them to me for $20 and I will sell you at set of S&S priemums for $280

Welcome to HTT and run you lifter they will tighten up and be far better then the stock ones
I'm never wrong , once I thought I was wrong , but I was wrong

Nick, thanks for the welcome & offer, but looks like I'll be running them.  Might be obvious, but I don't have much experience inside an engine or with the parts.  Good to know the high price ones are similar.  Makes sense too about tightening up once some oil gets in there.  That explains allot.  One less thing to worry about.
