Son has an 87' Heritage.  Looking for a carb.
Guy has a Screamin' Eagle CV carb from an 83' shovel. With manifold and breather.
Will this carb work on the 87'?
87' is bottom breather.

Bottom or top breather, has nothing to do with will a carb work on an engine. The factory fitted CV carbs to bottom and top breather egos. All o the factory CV carbs are really the same with only minor variances (drain valve, fuel inlet, float, cruise control, etc). Bottom line is all 40mm CV cabs are interchangeable for the most part. Even the ones used on sportsters are the same.

I have a cv carb from a 96 or 97 road king that was a take off replacement.  let me know if you are interested, letting it go cheap.

86 & 87 sporties had actually the old butterfly Keihin. 88 was the only year with non-acc pump CV.

That pic looks like a '92 up backing plate...the mounting bolts are 1/2"...wont bolt up to the heads on a pre '92...the pre '92's have a smaller bolt into the front and rear head. Unless I'm missing something.

You are right. The holes were for 1/2" head breather type bolts. His is an 87' bottom breather.
I made spacers that allowed us to use the 5/16" bolts and I mounted a spigot in the side of the breather for the bottom breathing hose.
Working good on the bike now.
