Just wondering if anyone uses Race Gas concentrate and thoughts on it. Wondering if it's equal to buying $8.00 a gallon SUNOCO Race gas? Had some AV gas at one time and my FXR ran like a rocket on it!  :bike:

Race gas concentrate sounds like octane boost, to me, which I have found to be not worth it. But I don't know what the product you're looking at actually is.
Race gas does not make more power than lower octane fuel. It actually burns slower so you can use it with higher compression to make more power. If your bike runs good on 87 or 91 octane and doesn't pre detonate, or long, race gas is not worth the money.
My bike will ping, I sometimes mix in a half gallon of race gas to a tank of premium. No ping, but also no extra power.
Sorry, didn't really answer your specific question.

Thanks Hoss. The product is actually called Race Gas and comes as a concentrate to up the octane of pump gas. I know when I ran 113 AV fuel in my FXR it ran awesome. Had a real sweet smelling exhaust too and it turned the inside of the exhaust from black to a greyish brown. Just wondering if anyone else has used it.

No experience but ditto what Hoss said.  Don't mistake smoother/quieter for more power.  If your engine doesn't require higher octane it will most likely make less power,  slower burn equals less cylinder pressure.

Got home one time with no gas in my 2 ton with tall block 427 and only had some C12 VP to use.  Put 4 gallons in and headed to town,  ran really smooth and quiet but had to dip way further into the throttle than normal.  Did smell good for a week or so.

If you just want smell there are all kinds of flavors/smells you can add to fuels.  Some racers mess with their competitors by adding banana, coconut etc. scents to fuel.

smokedyvr

Nope not trying to make it smell like an air freshener. My FXR has had some work done on it performance wise and it ran awesome on 113 octane AV gas. All sorts of power and ran cooler.

My Deuce is set up at 12.3:1 and runs fine on 93 octane pump gas.

Does the concentrate have a list of ingredients?

You should use the lowest octane you can without detonation. If you don't "need" it don't use it, you're wasting money.

:agree:   a lot of my friends don't get it. They throw their money out the window. Can you say "Placebo effect"?

This is a cut and paste from their web-site:
Race gas contains many chemicals that fall into three primary groups Fuel Hydrocarbons, Oxygenate, and Organometallic Compounds. The oxygenates that are used in RACE GAS are not derived from alcohol (like methanol or ethanol) and therefor do not damage fuel system or engine components. We believe that manganese has the best effect on octane and the synergistic effect with the other compounds found in RACE GAS. As a result RACE GAS contains the highest quality methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl or MMT.

They don't have a ingredient list as such on the web-site and I'm not home to read the can contents.

I've run 110 octane in my 117. This motor has 205 CCP, compression set at 11.3:1. It ran smoother, quieter, but it didn't pull any harder. Now if you made timing changes to accommodate the fuel, then you might see more power.

remember that AV  (100LL) and Race fuel have lead in them, and on the newer bikes that lead will raise hell with your O2 sensors. I do use AV gas for my old bikes and when I put my bikes away for the winter as it doesn't go bad..

smokedyvr

Yeah my newest bike is a 96 FLHR so no O2 sensors to worry about!

Not necessarily true. I used to buy Sunoco unleaded race gas for my 117 that would ping in the heat of the summer. Not all race gas has lead.

VP SV-05 has an octane of 98, is unleaded, and carries 4.7% oxygen. VP Street Blaze 100 has 96 octane and reports of 15% more power over 91 , no lead. Don't say race gas makes you lose power.

Race gas WILL make you lose power if your motor is not set up for it.

Lot more fuels these days than when I last used race gas.  Last thing I raced was a modified on methanol.  Didn't consider oxygenated fuels or ones that chemically react to create oxygen which at one time weren't allowed in some forms of racing.  One of the closest gas stations to me near a dirt track use to sell a high octane fuel but that was late 80's early 90's.  Looks like there are fuels for about anything now.  -Rick

Yeah.......not some of the oxygenated types. They are made for engines that run on 91 and will up the hp.

Interesting. Maybe I need to look into ordering some. I'm sure it's very affordable.
I guess I haven't looked into how the oxygenate works.

LOL, probably $15+ per gallon

Oxygenated definately increases hp. I used to race mx and cross country and ran it in my bikes. You can't let it sit in carb though, it will wreak havoc. I always turned my peacock off and ran it till it died. And it's some stinky stuff, the wife will throw a fit if you keep it in the garage. It don't smell nothing like the standard vp c12. I don't remember the exact cost, but back in 02-03 I think I was paying 12.00 a gallon for it

I`ve ran AV gas 100LL in my bikes, lawn mower, weed eater and chain saw for the past 5-6 years with no problems. Trying to stay from the alcohol. I may buy gas on the road but i always leave home with a full tank of 100 LL. Plugs and pipes look good with a light tan color.

The race gas that I was questioning you all about is actually called RACE GAS. It comes in a concentrate that you can carry in your saddle and use it wherever. I have used SUNOCO racing fuel and its a tad costly at around $8.00 a gallon and the price never seems to drop as does regular pump gas. I liked the fact that there is no alcohol in it to cause issues with the carb. Well anyways I have already bought it and will give it a shot........ :crash:

Remember . All fuels have a stoichemetric value . Running a fuel that has a stoichemetric value of 1.0-1.5 AFR difference needs to be tuned . Especially oxygenated fuel .

Mixing two types of different stoichemetric fuels can find you way down on power, without some tuning .

What issues are you having that you need to run race gas? What is your motor build?
