I need to rebuild my starter solenoid - and I want it to last for a few years - are the after market rebuild kits just as good as the Harley rebuild kits?
Thanks  ---- 07 RK stock

I rebuilt my solenold at 150K miles with HD parts and now have 210K miles with no problems.  I have found that it is best to stick with factory parts for electrical items like this.  I've had too many problems with aftermarket electrical items like this in the past.

Are you sure it needs a rebuild? I was having problems with my 03 Dyna solenoid and pulled it apart and cleaned it then put back together and that was it.

I have cleaned and sanded the copper contacts --- still giving me starter problems --- probably time to get serious

These starters are common automotive starters.

You can find the parts at any starter repair shop at a much lower price than the dealer.

HD starters are Nippondenso's that are used on many US and foreign built cars.  Auto electric shops will should be happy to rebuild yours.
