Hi all

I have found a 25197-04 cams kit for my 2007 sporty and I have some questions to mount it

the specs :

Intake open 25º BTDC
Intake closed 44º ABDC
Intake duration 249º
Exhaust open 59º BBDC
Exhaust closed 10º ATDC
Exhaust duration 249º
All data taken at .053 lift
Valve Lift .551

In the notice it's not very clear , do it is absolutly necessary to control the clearance between the valves and piston ?
If it's necessary can I re-use the news heads gaskets after the control ?
With the 44° intake closed I think it's better to increase the compression but I finf just the 0.04 or 0.03 head gasket
The standard mouting is 0.0625 if I'm not mistaken
Have you somes link to buy the gaskets kits ? I think Cometic are the best ?
If the gaskets are finer are the lifter who compensate de difference

thank you so much

Hi Phil,

Those cams have relatively little overlap and as a result, pretty low TDC lifts. So there is zero chance of piston to valve clearance issues and it's not worth your time to check it.

You say your bike is an "R", but that doesn't narrow it down enough. If your bike is an 883R, the compression ratio is 9:1 and yes, the 44 degree intake close point is pretty late for 9:1, and will bleed off a lot of compression. Your corrected compression ratio will be 8.2:1 or thereabouts which is pretty much in the basement. Personally, I'd run the stock "W" cams (25 degree intake close event) if I was leaving the CR at 9:1. Even dropping the head gasket down isn't going to move it enough to matter.

On the other hand, if your bike is a 1200R, the stock compression ratio is 9.7:1. Corrected CR will be 8.77:1 which is still a little low but it's at least workable. You're going to lose some through the bottom and middle and gain some on top.

Be aware, too, that this particular set of cams has something of a reputation for being noisy.

Oups sorry  :embarrassed: it's a 1200 R

thank you aswracing    The noise is not a big problem but it's important to tell about it to don't be afraid after the mounting
I have the short shot exhaust and a KN cone air filter
You tell me we don't have solution to increase the CR without work on the heads or to put HC pistons
I had chosen this set because we have the specific cartography in SEPST I use

Great news I m not die ...  :hyst:

The cams are mounted  :koolaid1:
The sound of exaust is completely different with the same line : the short shot
I have no special cams noise ! the running is sweety
We have mouted the 0.03 thickness cametic heads gasket to increase the compression
With the Stage 2 sepst carto the running is ok
may be I will must to reduce the timing map to compensate the more pressure ratio ?
thank you to Aaron for his many information messages

I will make the smartune sessions to optimize this new package
