I use the cardboard box from the filter, stuff some shop towels in there, then spray down the F'ing mess with brake cleaner. Nothing has really worked perfectly for me: plastic bottles, the factory thingy, foil.

I use one of these...I bought the orange tray prior to this and was less than impressed.

Pretty cool...I have made a crude version of that in the past with aluminum roofing flashing.  Not nearly as nice though.
where's the points and condenser ?<br />Tom / aka motor

Not worth the $$$$ IF you have a adapter for oil cooler on Dyna!!!! It can not get under the lip and between the oil line from the adapter. 70% effective IMHO.

I've never liked the front horizontal oil filter location-a messy proposition no matter how careful. I much prefer the old FXR where you can just unscrew it and let it drop into a pan. Simple and no mess.

Maybe we'll see a better location, or better access on the 2017's.           :nix:

Save your money.  I tried it and found it was a bigger mess than using nothing.  Your better off just letting it drain into the pan and cleaning up after.

I might just have to buy one next trip to the HD Shop... I'm tired of using cardboard and plastic stuff.  I have monkeyed around with Other ways too,  but Hearing it works,   I'll guinea pig it myself... :SM:

I have one and love it, I can usually change my oil and not get a drop on the floor.

But the FXR (and pre-'94 FLs) had the filter hidden underneath the bike where you can't see it, so you won't pay the extra three bucks for a chrome one (remember, using a black oil filter is like stealing from the company).

I have one of the orange things. After cutting a notch in it (to clear the oil pressure sender) and switching to those K&N filters with the nut welded to the end (so the filter wrench doesn't pull the chute out of position just as oil starts to flow from the filter) and making sure the bike's on the kickstand, which is on the ground (not on a block), I can get the filter off with only a modest amount of oil dumping onto the front motor mount and regulator.

After multiple failed drip free attempts, I finally found if I cram every nook & cranny under the plastic thingy with paper towels I can do the change without a drop.

If I'm not in a rush, what I've been doing is punch a hole in the filter and let it drain all night onto a plastic thingie, then in the morning spin off the filter, hardly a drop, and shop towels catch that.

that's pretty much what I've learned in using that orange plastic drain tray, diy drain guides....punching a hole in the bottom/top of the filter and letting it drain overnight...only way I've found where you can avoid the mess -

i use the ernst drain tray. i cut a notch in mine where it hits the filter adapter so it will go past the end of the filter and then it will not drip.
