Just found this online but haven't heard anything about it.  Anybody have any feedback?

akjeff

They list the country of origin as "Imported", which from V-Twin Mfg usually means China. No thanks.

I was waiting for that!

I figured they were made the same place the OEM ones were made!
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Do you know for a fact that the factory version aren't/weren't US made? All I stated was that VTM's are for sure imports, and I'd prefer to not use one.

It doesnt matter where the HD ones were made, i have dealt with Teds many times in the past. Infact i used to go to Teds when they were just a "shed" when i was a little guy with my dad to buy their "Potty mouth"ty chrome hardware. lol
I wasnt speaking of the part, more of them as a supplier/retailer. But then again i havent dealt with them in years either.

I agree. Last counter balancer bearings I got from the dealer were from Taiwan at the new FAG factory there. Originals I took out were from Canada, also FAG. Having first hand dealings with the Co. back then as in making toolage , I paid a visit to see if the had any Canadian bearings left laying around since they moved all their equipment for this bearing from Stratford, Ont, to the one in Taiwan. All remaining stock was moved as well. Quality was guaranteed the same so I got over it.

That's the same comp as the twin power comp in bikers choice I have used a couple of them from BC and they have no issues yet. They seem to be made well and I have a bunch of the hd oilers that we install with them. I used them on guys bikes that I know will beat the chit out of them and make them fail if they are going to fail and I did speak with the customers about it before doing so they were happy to help. A couple thousand miles so far and still good. We took one apart at 1k miles and it looked new still
I'm never wrong , once I thought I was wrong , but I was wrong

I find ~ stuff is actually getting pretty cool these days. It's the mainland China stuff that is largely still just one big con, made by slaves, for the sake of foreign currency.

Much of the best bicycle and IT stuff is actually coming out Taiwan so they are capable of it. I think the blame has to lie with the (American) guys spec-ing it, and setting the prices.

Apple products, for example, are all made by a ~ company in China so that seems to be the working model these days.

From a historical point of view, it's kind of ironic ... American Imperialist running dogs, dictating to capitalistic Nationalist Chinese, who exploit Communist Chinese ones in suicidal work camps with no rights. I suppose it's a system where everyone plays to their best strengths.

Ironic, yes. Just noticed the other day my Adams golf cubs were made in China. No wonder my score sucks. :hyst: Then again maybe it's me. :embarrassed:

I suspect they are manufactured under licence from HD. I don't know of anyone who would commit that kind of overhead without a known market to recover the costs. Also making an exact copy of a patented part and expecting to make a go of it would be beyond stupid. Did you notice the shortage of comps at the dealers recently? Hmmm.
Ron

For what it's worth, the SE Comp is USA made.

The box is. :hyst: I've seen that before and the part inside say made in taiwan or in the case of my master cyl lids, Italy.  The original SE could have been made in the USA when it was a retrofit.

The HD comps are made overseas no matter what the box says. HD had a large number of comps that were returned from dealers due to heavy corrosion from sea salt. That does not happen if made in US.
HD has a solid patent on this unit and has to be licensed or out right sold for any US company to market. Not very likely Biker Choice is actually making them. Way to costly.
The dealer shelves are empty for a good reason and I would suspect another change to be released in August. Hang on to your money until we see exactly what is on the horizon.

Historically, H-D actually got special exclusion from the government over just this 'place of origin' issue.

I'd go with the box or assembled in option.

I'm not prejudiced about it but I really would like to know a 100% 'place of origin' list, like ingredients on a can of beans, e.g. they were casting wheels in Australia which makes sense given how much ore comes out of there.

All the parts could come from overseas, then assemble the comp in the USA and label it as such.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

04 SE Deuce

A quick call to the MOCO will net the origin of the comp and verify whether or not the "MADE IN U.S.A." label is correct.  Also whether an outside vendor is involved.

Could/would You do that Ric?
