What is the trick to get this little connector opened?  I need to remove the fuel tank and this little connector just won't open for me.  Thanks.

Assuming this is a Road King style tank, it takes a thin screwdriver to push in the shallow latch on the side of one of the housings.  It will then separate.  The latch is recessed and easy to miss..

The connector for the "fuel line" on the left side under the tank simply works by raising the round collar (by hand) and working the fuel line out from the bottom.  When you put it back together rub some oil and or silicone around the part of the fuel line that gets inserted as it helps.  Raise the collar and put the line back in place.  When it is seated good you can feel the collar go all the way down.

The electrical connector inside the tank works like what Fleet said, easy to miss the locks.

I think the first time I did mine, I cut the wires and spliced them back together. Once off, I saw that they snap out as fleetmechanic described.

I should have looked at his bike first, wrong kind of tank.
