I know its mainly US.. but people hang out here... sometimes can't get answers on the UK sites.....

I need to get to grips with my stock CV carb as fitted to my 89 FXR .. When I've taken the jets out there are no numbers so I don't know whats fitted?..... I've bought a Dynojet kit but am reluctant to fit it as the parts are not interchangable with the OE stuff....

Any comments on Dynajet?.. do I use it???... some say yes... some say no?.. are they good... if not, why are they bad??

Or does anyone know where I can buy the Keihin bits and get some advise in the UK?.. there are lots of people selling jets but they are just like shops who have never used them.. I'd like to talk to someone who knows their onions?...

It's a stock 1340 with after market filter... flowed heads.. and 1 3/4" drag pipes (with lolipops).. so what set up do I need to start with in the carb  ... I've been told 45 / 175... not sure what needle I have.... its no groves in it just a mushroom head one... (std HD I guess)

Thanks

If you already have it, the Dynojet kit is quite good and should have an adjustable needle.
just don't do any slide modifications.

BTW tip for new players in europe the main jet in the harley cv40 is a 6 mm thread, (and a 6.1 pitch at that, not the 6.08 like the dellorto) the euro kelhin cv40 main jet is a 5 mm thread.... also the harley Cv40 doesn't have an adjustable accelerator pump, gotta change the rod.... also watch out for jets rated in flow vs rated in diameter, the numbers are close-ish around the 1.9-2.0 mark

So watch out, could do worse than buy a kit direct from the states and DHL it over.

Your best bet is likely to be an independent dyno guy who has *plenty* of HD experience.

Or just walk in with a thread gauge and check before you buy........ do watch out for the flow vs size thing though, most uk / euro people will use the flow numbers

Pukka machine shop will have pukka incremental drill bits so you can make your own, just remember to put the jet in the drill chuck, and the drill bit in the vice......

Get your money back ... all it'll do is give you hassle then use more gas.

What did you get involved to do in the first place and why?

I'd say get it running good as stock first. Then re-think your project.

There is a suplier called Allen's Perf Ltd but what you are asking is too much for a supplier. It's why people charge well for setting up and tuning an engine.

Otherwise, get them - and advice - from CV Performance in the USA.

Tell him what you've got, and he'll sell you a kit to suit.

But put it all back to stock first, e.g. check if the slide has been drilled, springs cut etc etc etc.

Every 1340 CV carb I've modified came stock with a 42 pilot and 180 main. Your set up I'd use the 45 but a 190 main then see how the plugs look. Flowed heads let more air in and drag pipes let it out faster you may get along with a 195.  With ethanol I run leaner then when running premium.  It pisses me to sneeze when forced to run 87 ethanol when away from home. Jets are cheap by them self play with the 185 190 and 195 main. 45 pilot good.

Cheers guy's.. I'm new to this and just realised the two systems don't tie up

Hole Dia"  Keihin       DynoJet         Mikuni
0.0630---- 162.5------- 148--------- 138.8
0.0640---- 165--------- 150--------- 140.6
0.0650---- 167.5------- 152--------- 142.5
0.0660---- 170--------- 154--------- 144.4
0.0670---- 172.5------- 156--------- 146.3
0.0680---- 175--------- 158--------- 148.1
0.0690---- 177.5------- 160--------- 150
0.0700---- 180--------- 162--------- 151.9
0.0710---- 182.5------- 164--------- 153.8

0.0730---- 187.5------- 168--------- 157.5

So 190 K is the same as 170 DJ.... interesting

as you say.. I'll check it's stock as I also have the hole sizes now... and may be take it to 190 / 45... with the sporty needle initialy... cheers
