Also a great cam for lower compression.

??  go with the Andrews 37G cams.  he will be happy in the long run, you can bet on it.

I would stick with the 21.  In a couple years when he wants more juice get legit headwork done and bump the cam.  I did the opposite to start with and later wished I had listened.

Andrews 57's at 10.0 cr will pop the torque real quick, in a 98".

I was running the 57's at 10.2 cr and liked them in a 107" & a103".
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

If you're not porting the heads , just leave those 21s in there... The displacement increase
will give you a noticeable bump.

as long as the heads have not been shaved the 21's are a much better cam than people think it is.  I had a 95in roadglide w/ 21's and it was one of the best rides i ever owned.  Too much compression though will make this combo ping.  The way this cam works it's already hard on starting.  One of my favorite cams for 88 and 95 inch motors just beware of static compression.  for low end torque the 21 is a monster.

A local shop here uses lots of those 21s. With my mild pocket port they're torque monsters that
still "wind out" nicely on a bagger.

So what should the compression be set at with the 21's?

Mid-upper 9s? As always, good tune will be recommended.

OP, I'm in the same boat as you. I too have an 88 with 21's, and am about to do a 95 build. I'm sticking with the 21's, and here's why. First, I've had them in my 88 for 20,000 miles or so and they fit my riding habits well. I'm on an 05 Classic with a five speed and live in Houston, where long stretches of road are few. I spend a lot of time in traffic and slow down/speed up situations and the 21's come on right off idle. I run 32k rpm at 75, about as fast as I care to go around here, and 35k at 85. The cams are supposed to be good to 4800. I personally have never reached the point where they fall off. Second, you already have them so why would you spend the money to move the powerband a few hundred rpm to the right? If you don't like it it's not too hard to change cams, even easier if you use adjustable pushrods. It's cheaper if you don't though lol.
