 Were is the best place to mount the antenna, inside the fairing like Harley says or out the fairing. Its on a 2017 FLHX SPECIAL.

I've never had any issues mounting them internally.  I didn't use HD's $40 mounting bracket either.   :SM:

You can see my garmin antenna mounted there to left as well.

Best meaning hidden or visible?

I have found the best reception is mounted right on top of the inner fairing by the vent. opposite the vent button.
mounting inside does slightly reduce reception.

Put mine on top of the radio 10 years ago and still works with absolutely no issue whatsoever.
