02 FXDWG I want to get rid of spoke wheels

Any reason I can't or shouldn't go with 16's?

Take offs are plenty at good prices. Front fender fitment not an issue as I don't have a stock fender.

since nobody else has jumped in yet: there's no physical reason you can't, as long as you pick a take-off from the correct year so that the axle size is corrrect.  You also may need to mess with the spacers to get everything properly aligned.
The "should" part of the question is a matter of personal taste...   :sick:

Personally, a 16" wheel on the front of a Wide Glide doesn't appeal to me as far as looks, and would add some weight to the steering. Not sure how it would affect rake and trail with the different diameter.
It's a chopper, skinny front tires rule!

I bought  wreck, did a complete rebuild, new HD frame.

But it in no way resembles a WG. Only a few have been able to ID it correctly.

Anyway, I can do anything with a wrench except true a wheel.

I'm tired of the wheels not being true.

Spoked wheels can be trued, as long as the hub or spoke holes haven't been oblonged.
My RoadKing wheels have 100,000 miles on them, spoked. Not sure how the rear has held up, but so far so good. I "ping" the spokes often.

I'm no good at truing.

I had a dealer look at them and was told they were in spec.

Had a Indy true them, recommended by the local large club, and no better than what I did.

Im a perfectionist, so I think going with a cast wheel makes more sense.

How far out are they? Have you put an indictator on them to see how much? Can you feel it when riding, can you see it while rotating? Is it both wheels?

I can see it while riding. Just enough to aggravate me.

Wow. I don't see how it can be in spec if you can see it moving that much while rolling down the road. Can you feel it wobble or vibrate? Have you measured the run-out?

I measured once but forgot.

I'll throw a dial indicator on it tonight or tomorrow and let you know.

As far as the dealer telling me its in spec, I don't argue with people just so I can give them my money. It was obvious to me they didn't want to do the work.

Same with the Indy, heck I understand, who wants to spend 3 hours getting a wheel perfect?

I wish I had the talent and patience to do it, but I don't.

I'm sure you've probably looked,but make sure it's not the tires showing runout instead of the wheels.          Coff 06

That was the case on my Nightrain... if you don't keep the spokes "torqued" then they don't stay true also. I ended up getting rid of my Nightrain but I was just about ready to buy a spoke torque wrench... something that someone that does wheel truing all the time doesn't need but good for an amateur. There aren't many old school lacers left as far as I could find.
