Last year I updated my 2002 FLH to Brembo brakes front and rear. This year I updated the rotors to a EBC MD521 floating rotor on back and HD floating rotors on the front. The EBC rear rotor instructions state the rotor is made of billiet steel and not hardened stainless steel. Says to use EBC pads FA409V/VLD which are a semi sinthered pad or rotor damage will result. I want to try EBC pads both front and rear as I have seen some good reviews here. Have also read that the semi sinthered EBC is noisy?

Looking for some feed back regarding which EBC pads for this rear rotor and what type to use with the front HD floating rotors. I have tried Lyndalls in the past on the original stock 2002 set up and was just not impressed. Used the slightly used HD pads that came with the used Brembo calipers when I converted and they worked ok (was just a test) and the conversion was definitely worth doing. So looking for some feed back on EBC's.

Thanks,

EBC "HH' series pads are great. The newer, I forget the series letter designation, are supposed to be better yet.

All kind of a trade off here.  The part No. you show are sintered pads which I understood to be rough on rotors but are good for not fading.  I have started using EBC Kevlar organic pads instead of the Harley pads.  They stop with less lever/pedal pressure (kind of like power assist) bit but there is a downside.  They seem to be wearing a lot faster than the OEM pads, and I suspect in severe duty they will fade quicker.  Living here at the beach with no hills that is not an issue.  In the mountains it might be a different story.

I've been running the EPFA409HH EBC Fast Track and Street Day pads for several years. Best pad I've used so far, quiet, very powerful, and not much dust. They cost a few bucks but are well worth it if you put your brakes to the test like I do.

  The "EP" at the beginning of the part number Ohio gave means "Extreme Pro" which is a better pad and a little easier on rotors compared to EBC's regular "FA" HH pad.

I'd spend the extra $ and buy the better Extreme Pro pads.

Personally I don't like a sensitive rear brake so I might run a different pad on the rear to dumb it down a little...don't know if EBC organic or semi-sintered would be an option or not.

You can call tech at EBC in Las Vegas (702) 826-2401.

Thanks for the replies.

The EBC FA409V/VLD is listed as a semi sinthered pad and that is what the instructions for the MD521 rear rotor say to use to avoid damage to the "softer" steel rotor. That is also what EBC told me a few months ago when I contacted them at the same number 04 Deuce provided (Thanks Rick).

So looks like I will give the FA409V/VLD pads a try on the rear and the EPFA409HH pads a go on the front HD floating rotors. Was wondering if they were hard on the rotors but looks like not too bad according to Ohio HD & 04 Deuce.

Time to call Calif Phil

I'm running those pads on the HD floaters, there has been no real wear on the rotors at all. The rear rotor I use is a non polished stainless rotor, no wear there either.

Bob.  I haven't used any EBC brake pads.  I picked up a set of EBC rotors that will be going on an FXDX and talked to EBC about the differences between the FA and EPFA pads.  I was told the EPFA is a better pad, more stopping power and if anything slightly easier on rotors.  Wouldn't take much to make a quick call to tech and verify.  I like all the front brake I can get and an average rear.

Rick, for he mountain curve carving that you like, I agree a less touchy rear is better. I generally only even use my rear when I'm needing to drop the speed down really fast, then I pinch both front and rear. I have almost locked the rear with these pads without meaning to, so you do need to be cautious with them.

Thanks Rick. When I talked to EBC when I ordered the Rotor a few months ago, they strongly suggested the Semi Sinthered pads with their MD521 rotor. Said the more aggressive pads would chew it up pretty quickly. I do like a good bite at the rear. I ordered the semi sinthered rears today from Phil and the EPFA409HH pads for the front. I figure if the rears are lacking I can always get the more aggressive pads for the rear. EBC's are not bad price wise. I still use the original 2002 rear master cyl with the 2008 up Brembo rear caliper. That is one reason the HH pads may work better for me as the 2002 MC is a little light for the Brembo caliper. The system will be complete when I cut the mount off for the original MC and install the 2008 MC. I have the MC but it will be a next winter project.
