What was first year for electric starter?I have a 61 and need a left case with out electric start hump.Thanks Charlie

My guess would be around 64, my 65 had electric start.

Now my next question is when is the last year for xlch cases that didn't have elec. start hump? I am rebuilding an oud sportster and I don't want that elec. start primary.I want the tin cover.Thanks for the input.Charlie

Charlie, I've never had a Sportster but the question re tin versus aluminium outers had me intrigued. The eBay link below shows a 1969 XLCH with a tin outer primary and I think the 1970 XLCH had the aluminium outer. But I don't know about compatability of crankcases for your 1961 model.     Eric

Thanks for all the come-backs.From what I have gathered; I can use any XLCH left case from 1957-1965.I want the no battery look.Thanks again and keep me in mind if anyone runs up on a left case or set of cases this vintage.Charlie
