original battery still in use ..6.5 years in my 03 FLHT..bought in Oct 5 2002...still going good..use the tender 2 or 3 times over the winter..stored in unheated garage..our winters 5 to 6 months long...allways give it a good charge before first startup in spring..I may replace it before it dies on me and use it to power lights..stereo..around the shop..it may also save the alternator if replaced sooner than later..

Hello folks
the Odyssey battery on my '96 FLHR has just died and I'm in the market for a replacement. Here in Australia the Odyssey is $300Au and the HD oem $200Au. the odyssey lasted a whopping 8 years exactly (installed april 2001), is it worth the extra $100 as I am a bit broke at the moment, or do the OEM ones only last  couple of seasons?
cheers

Buy another Odyssey and be done with it... 8 years is good...

Just got home and checked my charger.  It is the HD "smart charger" which looks like the Deltran BT jr.  I didn't see any specifics on the web but it must be ok for the AGM batts or the mother ship wouldn't sell it.    right?

I live 12 minutes away from the DeKa factory where they have a retail store in which you can buy Factory Seconds (blems).
A couple of years ago I bought an AGM battery for my Ultra for under $50.00 there.
If anyone needs a battery I am willing to go there and pick it up for you and UPS it to you at no profit to myself.
Call them first to be sure they have what you need, then E-mail me with the details.
DeKa's phone # 610-682-6361 ask for Retail Sales.

Just renewed mine after twelve years, its still ok but the terminals have cracks in them. It was made Dec `96.

Never used a tender on it. Used to remove it and keep it indoors during the winter.

Replaced it with another HD item, same part number as the last. Twelve years is good enough for me........

 :up:That is awesome,Truck!  I would gladly give you a little extra for "gas" money for your effort.  I just ordered one a couple days ago so if you're still around in a couple years ( good lord willing) I'll look you up.
