I searched but didn't find a definitive answer. It seems that 5/8" is the proper amount of deflection for the chain. When I push up or down hard it pushes the auto tensioner down. Should the measurement be taken then or with the tensioner in its normal position? Trying to track down a vibration. TIA

Thanks. That's what I thought but wanted to be sure. With the tensioner in that position there's only about 1/4" of deflection.

1/4" lift from the mid low point will give you in the area of a total of 5/8+ with shoe compression. Key is measure the up slack, not pushing down. Second method can be measure the total up including shoe compression. Total of 5/8 - 3/4 is fine.
