Title: Yet another small problem
Post by: Panzer on September 03, 2011, 07:09:41 PM

06 rod, 9K on the clock
Bike runs well.........sort of..........
All gages go out and the bike shuts down.
When the gages go out and right before a full stop the engine dies.
The engine can be fired up immediately but the gages may or may not come alive right away.
All electrical plugs (connections)  and pins have been separated and coated with dielectric grease (& pushed tight, by me) including the fuse block, fuse legs and the main 40 amp fuse legs.
40, 50, 100 miles later it may or may not do it again.
This does not happen on every ride, just enough to annoy.
Any suggestions where to look or what to look at.
TIA

I would be looking for a bad relay or circuit breaker.However....wtfdik, I can't even get a turn signal bulb to work?

Worst case scenario is a bad ecm.

Thanks Auto.
BTW, I offered to help you fix that turn signal but nooooooo!
I made a suggestion that we run the bike, and shake every wire in every connector block.
We'll see.......to be continued...............

Turned out that the globe was slipping in the brass.Chinese heavy duty bulb.

Panzer, have you checked the ground at the battery and frame?  It sounds like an intermittent power issue.  Also check the positive side of the wiring.  How new is the battery?  Might put a meter on it and see that its at/holding proper charge.  As an 06, if the battery is original, its getting old, IMO.

Foreign bulb? :hyst:.......it was probably the turn signal fluid.

Dennis, any idea will help.
As soon as the bike gets here in the garage I'll check both ground points and battery.
Still open for suggestions guys.

Cleaned all grounds including battery.
The problem was the Ignition relay.....all is well at last.  (so far)
