Just bought a new rocker arm assembly for the front cylinder(still dealing with the ticking) put the shafts thru the base and rockers. Both have .014 side play should I shim them or no? This is just sitting on the bench. If so what should be a good tolerance and where do I get the shims?
Bolt the assembly to a cylinder head and see what happens. I have seen the clearance you see on the bench disappear or even go tight when the assembly is torqued down on a head. (Particularly on Evos).
At 0.014" you are in the ballpark if this is a TC. The FSM shows clearance spec. 0.003" to 0.0013" and wear limit of 0.025".
Drag specialties has the following shims:
0927-0007, 0.005"
0927-0006, 0.007"
0927-0008, 0.015"
Thank you.
.0013" sounds tight. I guess the Alloy grows with heat.
It's just a typo. SP33DY meant to type 0.0013" 0.013".
Ohio meant to type 0.013.

Correct! I accidentally added a zero!
Many years ago when I was chasing ticks and rattles I bolted mine on a extra head I had and checked that way to get a true reading. Then bolted the head in the bridgeport. I can't remember what it measured but I machined it bigger so I could use a thicker shim so not to worry about a thin shim breaking like the old wave shims from the shovelhead days.
