Title: Speedometer question
Post by: RVN73 on September 27, 2022, 01:16:25 PM
I just got home from a trip to Texas. On the way down my speedometer started acting up. I've got an '02 Road King. cruising along at about 70mph the needle would start to jump around. It would bounce to 30 back to 70 drops to 0. then it would act fine for a while. Am I looking at a replacement or a bad connection?   :nix:

VSS dirty with metal filling? You could pull the sensor on the tranny and check it.

My '01 RK did the same thing, the regulator went out causing an overcharge to the battery, 19 volts while running.

I replaced my '02 Road Glide speed sensor somewhere around 70K miles.

My 01 FLHT did that years ago. If I recall the directionals didn't work right either.  Replaced the VSS and it was all set.
