Title: 73-up oil pump on 68 BT
Post by: xlfan on March 31, 2022, 08:13:36 AM
Has anyone tried this? Is it any case drilling involved? Not S&S billet pump, aftermarket cast old style pump.

I don't think that it will work  correctly as passages will not line up. The cutoff year is 1972, the last year for the side oiling pinion shaft.

Use S&S 53-0013 Crankcase Oil Passage Drilling Jig to get the oil passages right. Instructions can be found here:

It's my understanding that you need to use an S&S pump. All S&S pumps are for end oiling pinion shafts and are the 81 and up style that splits the oil path. I do not believe that those instructions are for a end oilin

Those instructions are for an S&S billet aluminum pump which is a different animal than a stock 73 pump.

Why do you want to fit a pre 68 cast pump? Also fit 6 pinion& 24 oil drive gears to ya 1968

I don't want to fit a pre 68 cast iron pump, but a post 73 cast alu (not billet) pump.
