Hey guys. Hoping someone has seen this before. The bike is a 2021 Street Bob. I was going to get a ride in last night. It started normal but I noticed the check engine light was on. I was very low on fuel, so I rode 1 mile to the gas station. Bike was running normal. I shut it off and fueled up. When I went to restart it the starter would not turn. All gauge lights/external lights came on as normal, but the starter button was "dead".

I pushed it out of the way and went to try again. This time no lights came on at all. Like the battery was dead. I started to think this sounds like an alarm issue. I got a new CR2032 and put it in the FOB. No change.

I then tried to use my portable jump box but I'll be damned if I can get to the positive terminal on the battery. What a ridiculous design. I tried to go straight to the starter but no luck.

Decided to push it home. As I was pushing, I would randomly try to start it. The gauge lights and external lights would come on one time, then not another time. Start never made a sound.

It's under warranty, so I will get it to the dealer, but just not sure what else I should check.

Pull the codes and see what they are.

I'm trying to search on how to do that with the new bike (digital multi gauge). The bike is completely dead again this morning.

Don't discount the possibility of a bad battery on a new bike. It happened to me. Not being able to access the battery positive terminal for a jump start is a dumb design. On some models, you can pull back the rubber boot from the starter stud and access the plus side from there.

Trying to research what each one is, but it looks like the bike lost communication with the right and left hand control switches. Better go check some wiring on the handle bars.

On some of the newer trikes there has been an issue with the left hand clutch switch.

Fixed it. One of the plugs for the right hand switches had jiggled loose. I guess I didn't get it fully seated when I installed the new bars. Got it clicked in now and double checked all the others. Cleared codes and it fired right up. No check engine light. Thanks for the support fellas.

Yes he did.

Same old story go back and check the last thing that was installed or repaired!Bike ,car,truck anything that moves.

The small connectors on the '14-later handlebar switches are easy to plug in without quite catching the lock tab.  It's very small.

I guess I did. I installed them 2 months and 2000 miles ago. I guess I didn't think of it at the time. I honestly thought the security system was acting up. Before I called the dealer I decided to pull the wire harness out of the frame and whammo! Should have done that in the parking lot, would have saved me shoving the damn thing 1 mile home.

I'm a decent enough parts installer/swapper, just forget the basics every once in a while.
