Has anybody ever heard why s&s don't make the B engine cases and engines?

CarlosGGodfrog

I was told that it was a legal issue with the B motor cases. If you send them your cases, they will build a motor, IIRC. I could be wrong, you know the internet.

jrgreene1968

I googled it, but didn't come up with much. Looks like they could have changed the engine just enough to go around HD patent. Maybe there's not a big enough demand for the B engine. I've thought about buying a used engine to build up, but then you never know what your getting, if bought from eBay etc. my luck it would be cracked, or spun bearing bores etc

Man my search skills suck!! I've looked online several times, just curious what was out there and never found much for the B. I just typed that number in, and they even make a 120 for the B.
Thanks for that!!

Well I was, but it don't look like s&s makes B cases.
The SE might not work either. I called Ronnie's today, and they won't sell cases without me sending them my left case, and she said 30 days to order in.
I was wanting to buy, and build me a engine, but do it as I can afford it, without putting on credit card, so wife don't shoot me.

Never heard of this before. Except with OEM cases. SE cases are sold outright.

I asked her if she was sure, since I was wanting to build a piece at a time, she said that's the only way I could buy. She said vin number had to be put on cases , which didn't sound right to me either, but I didn't argue with her

It might have to do with your state laws, I didn't have any trouble getting a short block from Ronnies, but it took a while to get the MSO and they needed the VIN for that. I'm in MD and they only go by the frame VIN.

She didn't ask what state, actually she didn't ask me nothing. I gave her the part number and she came back on the line telling me about having to send them my case etc.
I'm planning on calling the local HD shop, and ask them. Doubtful I'd buy from local though, they are real proud of there stuff

Don D

She has taken a rule and confused it with another, buying OEM cases . They want a VIN so they can see you are a legitimate harley bike owner not a shop looking to buy in volume. They come with a MSO not vin. If the dealer won't sell it then try another.

rigidthumper

I'd guess because engine cases have an abbreviated VIN, and fed law says no more than 1 vehicle having a specific VIN, is why. Every time I needed replacement cases, the choice was send in the left case to the factory, and get replacement cases with that # stamped, or buy SE or aftermarket cases that come with an MSO.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

jrgreene1968

It was just Ronnie's I guess. I called my local hd shop and he said how many you want. But he's proud of them.

Replacement is different  from just buying cases to build an engine, but I  am sure you know that.

To the OP, if they need a VIN, give then one. They didn't  ask for you old cases.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Well crap, I missed that!

Even so another phone call should straighten that up.
