After finding those things, I would consider checking and cleaning all of the ground connections and then test the solenoid to see if the pull in winding has a complete circuit to the engine case. If that checks out and the solenoid is actually and actively pulling the contact disc in, then the disc may be carboned up from arcing and need to be cleaned or flipped over. The things I mentioned IMO are way more common that an actual starter winding failure.

Last post by alstar2 - April 28, 2024, 07:57:07 AM
have a 2004 eg clutch problem. this guy put in a new clutch. it did not have a narrow friction plate.
the damper & damper seat caused the last plate to be outside the basket. can the damper & damper seat
be eliminated? he says that is
the only plates he got. parts book does not have a # for just that plate. thank you Al

Hi Guy
New here and to Harley's.
Just bought a project 75 XLH ironhead sportster.
Fancied a change from 200mph Japanese 4's, licence and freedom paranoia set in!! So bought my 1st harley and a 67 triumph T100, to decide which to keep.

I've already worked out I should have bought a sportster a year older or 2 years newer, owing to the gear shift, but hey, we have what we have, and yup, we have gearbox issues!! So be seeing you all soon on here :smileo: :teeth:
